Noctua, the CPU cooler manufacturer, has announced the expansion of its chromax.black line with the addition of all-black versions of the NH-D9L and NH-L9x65 Coolers. These new models feature black fans and black coated heatsinks, offering both exceptional cooling performance and a sleek stealth aesthetic.

According to Roland Mossig, CEO of Noctua, many Small Form Factor system builders prioritize not only performance and quiet operation but also the overall look of their builds. The NH-D9L and NH-L9x65 have gained popularity among this group of users, making the introduction of the all-black chromax versions an exciting development.

The NH-D9L chromax.black and NH-L9x65 chromax.black models are identical to their award-winning counterparts in terms of functionality, with the only difference being the color. The heatsinks, fans, anti-vibration pads, fan clips, and mounting parts are all coated in black, creating a sleek and cohesive appearance. The coating material and process have been thoroughly optimized to ensure that the chromax.black models deliver the same exceptional cooling performance as the original models.

The NH-D9L is designed to provide excellent efficiency while maintaining a height of only 110 mm. This low profile makes it suitable for compact Mini-ITX and Small Form Factor cases with airflow paths parallel to the motherboard. The NH-D9L’s 95x95mm footprint ensures compatibility with RAM and PCIe slots on ITX motherboards.

On the other hand, the NH-L9x65 strikes a balance between the larger NH-L12 series and the ultra-compact NH-L9i and NH-L9a series. With a height of 65 mm and four heatpipes, it offers more power than its smaller siblings while still maintaining a 95x95mm footprint. This footprint ensures compatibility with RAM and PCIe slots, making it convenient to work with as it doesn’t overhang near-socket connectors.

Both coolers feature Noctua’s highly optimized NF-A9 and NF-A9x14 premium fans, which support fully automatic speed control via PWM. This allows for remarkably quiet operation. Additionally, they come with Noctua’s professional SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system for Intel and AMD, including the new offset mounting bars for better performance on AM5. The coolers also include Noctua’s NT-H1 thermal compound and come with a 6-year manufacturer’s warranty.

The suggested retail prices for the NH-D9L chromax.black and NH-L9x65 chromax.black are as follows: [prices not provided]. With these all-black versions, Noctua continues to deliver premium cooling solutions for space-restricted systems, combining exceptional performance, quiet operation, and a sleek aesthetic.

Technology Explained

AM5: Socket AM5 (LGA 1718) is a zero insertion force flip-chip land grid array (LGA) CPU socket designed by Advanced Micro Devices, that is used for AMD Ryzen microprocessors starting with the Zen 4 microarchitecture. AM5 replaces the Socket AM4 and is AMD's first LGA socket designed for mainstream, non-enthusiast CPUs.

CPU: The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the brain of a computer, responsible for executing instructions and performing calculations. It is the most important component of a computer system, as it is responsible for controlling all other components. CPUs are used in a wide range of applications, from desktop computers to mobile devices, gaming consoles, and even supercomputers. CPUs are used to process data, execute instructions, and control the flow of information within a computer system. They are also used to control the input and output of data, as well as to store and retrieve data from memory. CPUs are essential for the functioning of any computer system, and their applications in the computer industry are vast.

ITX: ITX (Information Technology eXtended) is a form factor for motherboards and other computer components. It is a small form factor that is designed to be more compact than traditional ATX motherboards. ITX motherboards are typically used in small form factor PCs, such as those used in home theater PCs, media centers, and other small form factor applications. ITX motherboards are also used in embedded systems, such as those used in industrial automation, medical equipment, and other embedded applications. ITX motherboards offer a number of advantages over traditional ATX motherboards, such as lower power consumption, smaller size, and improved cooling. Additionally, ITX motherboards are often more affordable than their ATX counterparts, making them a popular choice for budget-conscious consumers.

mini-ITX: The mini-ITX is a small form factor computer motherboard developed by VIA Technologies in 2001. It is designed to be a low-power, low-cost solution for embedded and small form factor applications. It is a 6.7-inch square motherboard that supports a wide range of processors, including Intel and AMD CPUs, as well as VIA's own C3 and C7 processors. The mini-ITX is used in a variety of applications, including home theater PCs, small form factor desktops, and embedded systems. It is also used in industrial applications, such as medical imaging, digital signage, and point-of-sale systems. The mini-ITX is a popular choice for computer enthusiasts who want to build their own small form factor PCs. It is also used in many commercial products, such as the Apple Mac mini and the Asus Eee PC.

PCIe: PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) is a high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard for connecting components such as graphics cards, sound cards, and network cards to a motherboard. It is the most widely used interface in the computer industry today, and is used in both desktop and laptop computers. PCIe is capable of providing up to 16 times the bandwidth of the older PCI standard, allowing for faster data transfer speeds and improved performance. It is also used in a variety of other applications, such as storage, networking, and communications. PCIe is an essential component of modern computing, and its applications are only expected to grow in the future.

PWM: Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) is a type of technology used in the computer industry that allows for control over pulse and frequency. It works by modulating an output signal’s pulse width or duty cycle to vary the on and off times of the signal. This technology can be used to control and regulate different DC motor, lighting, and other devices. In the computer industry, PWM is often used to control the speed of CPU and GPU fan speeds for improved cooling. It is also used to control backlighting levels on devices such as keyboards or monitors. PWM is versatile, cost-effective, and efficient; as such, it is an important technology in the computer industry.
