Noctua has announced that its NH-U12A cooler will be compatible with Intel's upcoming LGA-1851 socket, making it the first company to confirm compatibility with the next-gen Intel CPUs.
- Noctua's NH-U12A cooler is confirmed to be compatible with the LGA-1851 socket.
- Noctua's mounting kit for the LGA-1700 socket will also work with the LGA-1851 socket.
- Most coolers will likely work with minimal or no changes to their mounting kits.
Intel is set to release the LGA-1851 socket for its upcoming Arrow Lake series in 2024. Noctua, a popular cooler manufacturer, has announced that its NH-U12A cooler will support this new socket. This compatibility was hinted at over a year ago when details about the LGA-1851 socket were leaked by Benchlife. While the two sockets are similar, the LGA-1851 socket will have a slightly different Z-height, with an increased integrated heatspreader height.
Noctua has confirmed that its NH-U12A mounting kit for the LGA-1700 socket will also work with the LGA-1851 socket. The company’s manual states that both sockets require the same kit, which has been included with all Noctua Coolers released since the launch of Intel’s 12th gen Core “Alder Lake” series in 2021. This makes Noctua the first company to announce compatibility with the next-gen Intel CPUs, specifically the Arrow Lake-S series.
While Noctua’s NH-U12A cooler is confirmed to be compatible, it remains unclear if other coolers from Noctua or other companies will also work with the LGA-1851 socket. Compatibility may depend on factors such as the cooler surface or mounting mechanism. However, since both sockets share the same package size, it is likely that most coolers will work with minimal or no changes to their mounting kits.
It is important to note that although compatibility with the LGA-1851 socket has been confirmed through new packaging seen in Japan, Noctua has yet to update its official compatibility list to include this socket.
