ASUS has launched its high-end Z790 motherboard lineup, featuring unique designs. Among the models are the ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero, the ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming WiFi II, and the TUF Gaming Z790-Pro WiFi. However, one notable absence since 2022 has been the Formula board.
Initially mentioned by ASUS in 2022, the Formula board never made it to market. With Intel’s decision to postpone its LGA-1851 socket and introduce another round of LGA-1700 desktop CPUs, ASUS saw an opportunity for a completely new board rather than just a refresh.
The upcoming ROG Formula motherboard will sport a black and white design, matching the aesthetics of the Z690 design. The layout remains largely unchanged, featuring the “ROG Water-Cooling Zone” for direct Liquid Cooling of the VRMs. It retains its E-ATX design with four DDR5 DIMM slots and two PCIe Gen5 x16 slots. Additionally, the Z790 Formula will upgrade from WiFi-6E (Z690) to the WiFi-7 standard.
Reviewers are currently testing the board, and more details are expected to be revealed soon. Intel is set to launch its new desktop series on October 17th, making it likely that the ROG Formula will be featured in the coverage.

Liquid Cooling: Liquid cooling is a technology used to cool down computer components, such as processors, graphics cards, and other components that generate a lot of heat. It works by circulating a liquid coolant, such as water or a special coolant, through a series of pipes and radiators. The liquid absorbs the heat from the components and then dissipates it into the air. This technology is becoming increasingly popular in the computer industry due to its ability to provide more efficient cooling than traditional air cooling methods. Liquid cooling can also be used to overclock components, allowing them to run at higher speeds than their rated speeds. This technology is becoming increasingly popular in the gaming industry, as it allows gamers to get the most out of their hardware.
