nVidia, a leading technology company specializing in graphics processing units (GPUs), has launched its latest innovation—the NVIDIA Blackwell platform. This platform enables organizations to build and run real-time generative artificial intelligence (AI) on large language models with up to 25 times less cost and energy consumption than its predecessor.

The Blackwell GPU architecture incorporates six transformative technologies that will revolutionize various industries such as data processing, engineering simulation, electronic design automation, computer-aided drug design, Quantum Computing, and generative AI. NVIDIA’s founder and CEO, Jensen Huang, stated that generative AI is the defining technology of our time, and the Blackwell platform is the engine that will drive this new industrial revolution.

Several important organizations, including Amazon Web Services, Dell Technologies, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, Tesla, and xAI, are expected to adopt the Blackwell platform. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, emphasized the importance of investing in infrastructure for AI platforms and expressed excitement about incorporating the Blackwell GPU into their cloud services.

Andy Jassy, president and CEO of Amazon, highlighted the long-standing collaboration between NVIDIA and AWS and how the Blackwell GPU will enhance their AI research and development efforts. Michael Dell, founder and CEO of Dell Technologies, emphasized the critical role of generative AI in creating smarter systems and expressed enthusiasm for working with NVIDIA to drive innovation across industries.

Demis Hassabis, co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind, acknowledged the transformative potential of AI in solving scientific problems and praised the technological capabilities of the Blackwell GPU. Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, emphasized the importance of AI in powering their products and expressed excitement about using the Blackwell GPU to train their open-source Llama models.

Satya Nadella, executive chairman and CEO of Microsoft, emphasized their commitment to offering advanced infrastructure for AI workloads and highlighted the integration of the GB200 Grace Blackwell processor into their data centers globally. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, praised the performance leaps offered by the Blackwell platform and expressed excitement about enhancing AI compute capabilities.

Larry Ellison, chairman and CTO of Oracle, emphasized the collaboration between Oracle and NVIDIA in enabling breakthroughs in AI, machine learning, and data analytics. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and xAI, simply stated that there is currently nothing better than NVIDIA hardware for AI.

Named in honor of mathematician David Harold Blackwell, the first Black scholar inducted into the National Academy of Sciences, the Blackwell architecture succeeds the NVIDIA Hopper architecture. It incorporates six revolutionary technologies that enable AI training and real-time large language model inference.

The Blackwell GPU is packed with 208 billion transistors and manufactured using a custom-built 4NP TSMC process. It features a second-generation transformer engine, fifth-generation NVLink for high-speed communication, a RAS engine for reliability and serviceability, secure AI capabilities for data protection, and a dedicated decompression engine for accelerated data processing.

The NVIDIA GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip, a key component of the Blackwell platform, connects two B200 Tensor Core GPUs to the NVIDIA Grace CPU. It offers high AI performance and can be connected with advanced networking platforms for seamless communication.

The Blackwell platform will be available from various partners, including cloud service providers like AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. It will also be supported by leading server manufacturers such as Cisco, Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Lenovo, and Supermicro. Additionally, software makers like Ansys, Cadence, and Synopsys will utilize Blackwell-based processors to accelerate their software for designing and simulating systems and parts.

The Blackwell platform is backed by NVIDIA AI Enterprise, an end-to-end operating system for production-grade AI. It includes AI frameworks, libraries, and tools that enterprises can deploy on NVIDIA-accelerated clouds, data centers, and workstations.
