NVIDIA introduces X800 series switches designed for large-scale AI applications, with Quantum-X800 InfiniBand and Spectrum-X800 Ethernet offering 800 Gb/s end-to-end throughput.

nVidia has just launched its latest offering in networking switches, the X800 series, specifically designed to support AI applications on a massive scale. These platforms, the NVIDIA Quantum-X800 InfiniBand and NVIDIA Spectrum-X800 Ethernet, boast an unprecedented end-to-end throughput of 800 Gb/s. With their advanced software capabilities, these switches are set to revolutionize networking performance for computing and AI workloads across various data centers, including those equipped with NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture-based product lineup.

According to Gilad Shainer, senior vice president of Networking at NVIDIA, “NVIDIA Networking is central to the scalability of our AI supercomputing infrastructure.” He emphasizes that the X800 switches serve as comprehensive networking platforms that enable trillion-parameter-scale generative AI, a crucial component for building new AI infrastructures. Notably, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure have already jumped on board as initial adopters of Quantum InfiniBand and Spectrum-X Ethernet. Nidhi Chappell, Vice President of AI Infrastructure at Microsoft Azure, acknowledges the significance of networking infrastructure in supporting the evolution of data centers into high-performance AI engines.

Coreweave is another early adopter of these powerful networking solutions. The Quantum-X800 platform, comprising the NVIDIA Quantum Q3400 switch and the NVIDIA ConnectX-8 SuperNIC, sets a new standard for AI-dedicated infrastructure by delivering unparalleled performance. Achieving an industry-leading end-to-end throughput of 800Gb/s, this platform offers 5 times higher bandwidth capacity and a remarkable 9 times increase in In-Network Computing performance compared to its predecessor.

On the other hand, the Spectrum-X800 platform caters to the specific networking requirements of AI cloud and enterprise infrastructure. With the Spectrum SN5600 800 Gb/s switch and the NVIDIA BlueField-3 SuperNIC, this platform provides essential features for multi-tenant generative AI clouds and large enterprises. Spectrum-X800 optimizes network performance, enabling faster processing, analysis, and execution of AI workloads, thereby expediting the development and deployment of AI solutions. Its design ensures performance isolation for each tenant’s AI workloads in multi-tenant environments, guaranteeing consistent and optimal performance levels.

To complement these advanced networking platforms, NVIDIA offers a comprehensive suite of network acceleration libraries, software development kits, and management software. These tools optimize performance for trillion-parameter AI models. Notably, the NVIDIA Collective Communications Library (NCCL) extends GPU parallel computing tasks to the Quantum-X800 network fabric, harnessing its powerful In-Network Computing capabilities with SHARPv4. This supercharges performance for large model training and generative AI.
