Rambus Inc., a important chip and silicon IP provider, has launched its latest lineup of DDR5 server Power Management ICs (PMICs), designed to enhance data speed and security. The new family of PMICs includes an industry-leading extreme current device that caters to high-performance applications. By introducing these server PMICs, Rambus aims to provide module manufacturers with a comprehensive DDR5 RDIMM memory interface chipset that supports a wide range of data center use cases.

According to Sean Fan, the Chief Operating Officer at Rambus, advanced data center workloads like generative AI demand server RDIMMs with the highest bandwidth and capacity to meet the ever-growing memory requirements of data pipelines. With the addition of this new family of server PMICs, Rambus expands its foundational technology and offers customers a complete memory interface chipset that supports multiple generations of DDR5 server platforms.

DDR5 memory modules incorporate new chip technologies that deliver enhanced memory performance while staying within the power limits. Soo-Kyoum Kim, VP of Memory Semiconductors at IDC, emphasized Rambus’ position as a trusted supplier of on-module memory interface chips and highlighted their readiness to provide critical PMIC components for DDR5 memory module makers.

The PMIC plays a crucial role in the DDR5 memory architecture as it enables more memory channels, higher capacity modules, and increased bandwidth. Rambus’ DDR5 server PMIC family consists of products designed for the JEDEC extreme current (PMIC5020), high current (PMIC5000), and low current (PMIC5010) specifications. The industry-leading PMIC5020 from Rambus is set to push the boundaries of performance and capacity for future generations of DDR5 RDIMMs. Together with Rambus’ DDR5 RCD, SPD Hub, and Temperature Sensor ICs, this new family of server PMICs forms a complete memory interface chipset, catering to various DDR5 RDIMM configurations and use cases.
