Asus introduces Compact GeForce RTX 3050 6GB: A Versatile Graphics Card for Every PC

ASUS has joined the ranks of PC video card manufacturers offering a sub-75W video card based on nVidia’s low-power Geforce RTX 3050 6GB design. What sets Asus apart is their creation of a half-height video card specifically designed to fit into low-profile systems.

Dubbed the GeForce RTX 3050 LP BRK 6GB GDDR6, Asus touts it as a compact powerhouse. And indeed, for a low-profile dual-slot graphics board, it delivers. The card features three display outputs – DVI-D, HDMI 2.1, and DisplayPort 1.4a with HDCP 2.3 support – making it suitable for both dual-display desktop setups and home theater PCs. It’s worth noting that Nvidia’s GA107 graphics processor supports all popular codecs except AV1. Additionally, the inclusion of a DVI-D output allows the card to drive outdated displays that may still be in use.

One of the standout features of this card is its low power consumption, coming in at around 70W. This means it doesn’t require any auxiliary PCIe power connectors, making it compatible with cheaper systems from major PC manufacturers that may not have these connectors available.

Underneath its sleek exterior lies the GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB, powered by the GA107 GPU with 2304 CUDA cores. It comes equipped with 6GB of GDDR6 memory connected to a narrower 96-bit memory bus (compared to the full 8GB version’s 128-bits). The lower boost clock of 1470 MHz (1500 MHz in OC mode) results in reduced computing performance, delivering 6.77 FP32 TFLOPS compared to the full-fledged RTX 3050’s 9.1 FP32 TFLOPS.

It’s important to note that while the low-profile GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB is an entry-level card, its low power requirements are what make it stand out. It offers ample performance for low-end gaming, surpassing integrated GPUs. However, it’s not designed to compete with high-end, power-hungry cards.

The Asus GeForce RTX 3050 LP BRK 6 GB GDDR6 is an attractive option for upgrading affordable systems from OEMs or reviving outdated PCs. The only question that remains is its price competitiveness. MSI already offers a low-profile rival priced at $185, so Asus is not the sole contender in this market.
