AMD has announced the launch of their HYPR-RX platform, which combines three technologies into a single, user-friendly solution, and will include their FSR3 technology for a significant performance boost, with a targeted launch window of Q1 next year.
- AMD's HYPR-RX technology is exclusive to Radeon GPUs
- FSR3 frame generation will be integrated into HYPR-RX
- Activation of HYPR-RX is simple and done through AMD's software
AMD made a surprise announcement at Gamescom, unveiling not only the Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT Graphics Cards, but also providing an update on the highly anticipated FSR3 technology set to launch this fall. In addition, AMD confirmed that FSR3 will be integrated into their HYPR-RX platform.
The HYPR-RX platform has been a topic of discussion in recent months, as AMD had initially promised its release in the first half of this year. However, the official launch date has now been set for the first half of September, coinciding with the latest Adrenalin GPU driver update.
HYPR-RX combines three technologies into a single, user-friendly solution: Anti-Lag+, Radeon Boost, and Radeon Super Resolution. The inclusion of FSR3, or AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) as they call it, has been confirmed to enhance performance by generating fully rendered frames. This is similar to nVidia’s DLSS3 technology and can provide a significant boost in performance.
The major highlight of the announcement is that AMD’s FSR3 frame generation will be integrated into HYPR-RX, with a targeted launch window of Q1 next year. While the technology has already been developed and is functional in labs, further optimizations are required before its full implementation.
One notable advantage of Fluid Motion Frames is that it operates at the driver level, eliminating the need for game developers to optimize their titles specifically for this feature. AMD showcased this technology by demonstrating a substantial performance improvement on the RX 7800 XT, increasing FPS from 73 to 178 once the HYPR-RX feature was activated.
However, it is worth noting that until AFMF is integrated into HYPR-RX, the performance boost may be slightly reduced, though still impressive. The simplicity of this solution lies in its activation through AMD’s software, without the need to navigate through complex in-game settings. It remains unclear how HYPR-RX and FSR will function simultaneously in a game.
HYPR-RX is set to launch in September, while the Fluid Motion Frame update is expected by the end of Q1 2024. It is important to mention that AMD’s HYPR-RX technology is exclusive to Radeon GPUs and will not work with non-Radeon GPUs.
Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to clarify that HYPR-RX is not compatible with non-Radeon GPUs.

Technology Explained
FSR: AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is a type of rendering technique that looks to boost framerates in games and enable quality high-resolution gaming. It is an software upscaling technology, designed to improve the performance of games without loss of image quality and graphical detail. It works by rendering frames at a lower resolution and then using an open-source spatial upscaling algorithm to make the game look as though it's running at a higher resolution13. It is different from Nvidia's DLSS, which uses machine learning and temporal upscaling to achieve similar results. FSR is part of AMD's FidelityFX image toolkit and does not require specific training or special-purpose logic within the GPU. AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) scales across a broad spectrum of new and older products, including integrated graphics, and is optimized for AMD RDNA and AMD RDNA 2 architecture-based Radeon RX 6000 and RX 5000 Series graphics cards. FSR is also supported on select NVIDIA graphics cards.
