  • Samsung has reached out to TSMC for assistance in producing their new 3nm chips.
  • TSMC's rejection could potentially prevent Samsung from gaining insights into their manufacturing process.
  • TSMC's limited production capacity and exclusivity agreement with Apple may also be reasons for their rejection.

Samsung may have hit a roadblock in the manufacturing process of its new 3nm chips, specifically the Exynos 2500. To tackle this issue, the company reportedly reached out to TSMC for assistance in production. While the details of this collaboration remain unknown, it appears that the partnership may not move forward as smoothly as Samsung had hoped.

According to insider Jukanlosreve, TSMC has rejected any direct agreement with Samsung. One possible reason for this rejection could be the fear that Samsung might gain insights into TSMC’s manufacturing process through the Exynos 2500 chips and apply them to its own production lines. In other words, there is concern that Samsung could potentially steal TSMC’s technology outright.

It’s worth noting that various market sources have already reported Samsung’s struggles in producing 3nm chips using third-generation GAA technology. Apparently, the technology is only delivering about 20% of the expected performance.

Another reason for TSMC’s rejection could be its limited capacity to produce Samsung’s new chips. The company is currently overwhelmed with the production of Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400 chips. Additionally, TSMC has an exclusivity agreement with Apple, which means it needs to ensure it has enough production capacity to fulfill Apple’s orders. Including Samsung in the equation might exceed TSMC’s capabilities.

If this rejection is indeed confirmed, it could pose yet another challenge for Samsung and its development of 3nm chips. The company will need to find alternative solutions to overcome its manufacturing hurdles and keep up with the competition.
