BIOSTAR introduced the AM5-based A620MS motherboard for budget-conscious PC users, featuring up to two 48GB DDR5 DIMM slots, an M.2 PCIe 4.0 slot, four SATA III ports, and four debug LEDs for troubleshooting.
- Offers budget-friendly option for entry-level PC users
- Includes common features found in mATX A620 boards
- Includes four debug LEDs for easy troubleshooting
Biostar has launched its latest offering in the form of the AM5-based A620MS motherboard, catering to budget-conscious PC users. While the exact price of the A620MS has not been disclosed, the specifications of the motherboard indicate its focus on the entry-level market segment. Notably, it utilizes the regular A620 chipset rather than the more affordable A620A chipset.
The A620MS shares several features commonly found in mATX A620 boards, such as two DDR5 DIMM slots supporting up to two 48GB sticks, an M.2 PCIe 4.0 slot for SSDs, four SATA III ports, and a PCIe Gen4 x16 slot. Additionally, the motherboard includes four debug LEDs for easy troubleshooting of CPU, RAM, GPU, and booting issues.
Moving on to the rear I/O, users can expect a one gigabit Ethernet port, four USB 3.2 ports, analog audio jacks, two USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI 1.4 port, and DisplayPort 1.2. While there are more feature-rich A620 motherboards available with higher-spec ports, the rear I/O configuration of the A620MS aligns with what is typically seen in this category.
However, certain aspects of BIOSTAR’s A620MS suggest that it leans towards the lower end of the A620 motherboard spectrum. It incorporates only eight voltage regulator modules (VRMs), likely in a 6+2 or 6+1+1 phase configuration. While not as minimalistic as some alternatives (such as ASRock’s 4+1+1 stage board), this VRM setup remains relatively modest compared to most other A620 motherboards. Additionally, these VRMs lack a heatsink, which is customary for boards in this segment as they are typically paired with lower-power 65W processors.
BIOSTAR has not provided any specific CPU restrictions for the A620MS, stating compatibility with Ryzen 7000 and future Ryzen 8000 processors without further details.
Within the market for AM5 motherboards, the selection of A620 boards remains limited. On Newegg, only 14 different options are available, with minor variations primarily related to form factor. The price range for these motherboards falls between $75 and $100. Although BIOSTAR has not disclosed the exact price of the A620MS, considering its specifications, it is reasonable to expect it to fall within this price range as well.
