- Demonstrate the next level of computing capabilities
- Offer a modular reference architecture for building accelerated servers
nVidia GTC, the global AI conference taking place from March 18-21, will pay tribute to software pioneer Grace Hopper with the display of accelerated systems featuring powerful processors named after her. These systems, equipped with NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips, will be showcased at the event, demonstrating the next level of computing capabilities. With over 500 servers in various configurations across 18 racks, this display will be the largest at NVIDIA’s booth in the SAN Jose Convention Center.
One of the highlights at GTC will be the MGX Pavilion, where attendees can explore NVIDIA MGX, a blueprint for building accelerated servers using GPUs, CPUs, and data processing units (DPUs) for AI, high-performance computing, and NVIDIA Omniverse applications. MGX offers a modular reference architecture that can be utilized across multiple product generations and workloads. Visitors will have the opportunity to examine MGX models tailored for enterprise, cloud, and telco-edge applications, such as generative AI inference, recommenders, and data analytics.
The pavilion will feature a variety of accelerated systems packed with single and dual GH200 Superchips in 1U and 2U chassis. These systems will be interconnected using NVIDIA BlueField-3 DPUs and NVIDIA Quantum-2 400 Gb/s InfiniBand networks via LinkX cables and transceivers. They adhere to industry standards for 19- and 21-inch rack enclosures and offer E1.S bays for nonvolatile storage.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the MGX systems on display:
– ASRock RACK’s MECAI: This compact system accelerates AI and 5G services in constrained spaces at the edge of telco networks.
– ASUS’s MGX server, the ESC NM2N-E1: Designed to fit into a rack holding up to 32 GH200 processors, it supports both air- and water-cooled nodes.
– Foxconn’s MGX systems: The lineup includes a 4U model capable of accommodating up to eight NVIDIA H100 NVL PCIe Tensor Core GPUs.
– Gigabyte’s XH23-VG0-MGX: This system offers ample storage with six 2.5-inch Gen5 NVMe hot-swappable bays and two M.2 slots.
– Inventec’s systems: These systems can be seamlessly integrated into 19- and 21-inch racks and utilize three different Liquid Cooling implementations.
– Lenovo’s MGX servers: Lenovo provides a range of 1U, 2U, and 4U servers, including models that support direct liquid cooling.
– Pegatron’s AS201-1N0: This air-cooled server features a BlueField-3 DPU for software-defined, hardware-accelerated networking.
– QCT’s QuantaGrid D74S-IU: By stacking 16 of these systems, each equipped with two GH200 Superchips, into a single QCT QoolRack, significant computing power can be achieved.
– Supermicro’s ARS-111GL-NHR: This system, along with other air- and liquid-cooled GH200 and NVIDIA Grace CPU systems, offers efficient performance with its nine hot-swappable fans.
– Wiwynn’s SV7200H: A 1U dual GH200 system that supports a BlueField-3 DPU and a remotely managed liquid-cooling subsystem.
– Wistron’s MGX servers: Designed as 4U GPU systems for AI inference and mixed workloads, these servers can accommodate up to eight accelerators in one system.
These new servers complement the three previously announced accelerated systems using MGX at Computex last May: Supermicro’s ARS-221GL-NR featuring the Grace CPU and QCT’s QuantaGrid S74G-2U and S74GM-2U powered by the GH200.
The adoption of the GH200 Superchip by system builders is driven by its impressive performance. Combining a high-performance, power-efficient Grace CPU with the robust NVIDIA H100 GPU, these chips share a fast NVIDIA NVLink-C2C interconnect that enables seamless communication between the processor and memory. This combination is ideal for tackling demanding tasks such as running large language models, as it provides the necessary memory capacity and speed to connect generative AI models with data sources, enhancing their accuracy through retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
Furthermore, the GH200 Superchip offers enhanced efficiency and up to 4x more performance compared to using the H100 GPU with traditional CPUs for tasks like online shopping recommendations or media streaming. In its debut on the MLPerf industry benchmarks last November, GH200 systems excelled in all data center inference tests, further solidifying the leading performance of H100 GPUs.
In summary, the GH200 systems showcased at nVidia GTC pay homage to Grace Hopper’s pioneering contributions to computing. These systems embody her spirit and continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of technology.
