Synology, a leading provider of enterprise data management solutions, has recently expanded its range of products with the introduction of two new dual-controller systems. The UC3400 is an active-active system designed for mission-critical SAN storage, while the SA3400D is a versatile active-passive system suitable for NAS and SAN applications. These systems offer efficient high availability with shared storage and can accommodate up to 576 TB when fully expanded.

The UC3400 is specifically designed for virtualization and provides reliable, high-availability block storage over iSCSI and Fibre Channel. Its active-active dual-controller architecture allows for instant failover, making it an ideal solution for organizations that require zero-downtime for critical systems and services. The UC3400 also includes data protection features to meet strict regulatory compliance, such as support for self-encrypting drives and off-site snapshot replication.

On the other hand, the SA3400D offers exceptional value for organizations of all sizes. Its high-availability active-passive architecture ensures minute-level failover times, minimizing service downtime. The SA3400D also supports hybrid storage arrays, allowing it to leverage the speed of SSDs combined with the efficiency of HDDs for various workloads. With support for Synology’s DSM operating system, the SA3400D offers enhanced functionality through a wide range of first and third-party software packages.

Synology’s new systems also come with a suite of backup and collaboration tools. The Snapshot Replication and Hyper Backup features provide data and system backups, while the Active Backup Suite offers an intuitive solution for managing organization-level backups of Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoints, virtual servers, and cloud applications. Additionally, Synology’s comprehensive suite of online productivity applications enables distributed teams to collaborate and share files seamlessly.

The SA3400D is priced at $8,999.99, while the UC3400 retails for $7,999.99. Both systems are available now from Synology partners and resellers. With their cost and space-efficient high availability, these new additions to Synology’s enterprise data management solutions are suitable for businesses and organizations of all sizes.

Technology Explained

Fibre Channel: Fibre Channel, often abbreviated as FC, is a high-speed network technology designed primarily for transmitting data between computers and storage devices. It provides a dedicated and reliable communication channel, typically using fiber optic cables, although copper-based variants also exist. Fibre Channel is known for its exceptional performance, low latency, and high throughput, making it ideal for demanding applications like data centers, storage area networks (SANs), and enterprise-level storage solutions. It supports various topologies, including point-to-point, arbitrated loop, and fabric-based architectures. Despite the advancements in technologies like iSCSI, Fibre Channel remains a prominent choice for organizations requiring robust, secure, and high-performance storage networking.

Latest Articles about Fibre Channel

iSCSI: iSCSI, or Internet Small Computer System Interface, is a protocol that facilitates the transport of block-level storage data over a TCP/IP network. It enables storage devices, often referred to as targets, to be accessed remotely by servers or clients, known as initiators. iSCSI offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional Fibre Channel, allowing organizations to leverage existing Ethernet infrastructure for storage communication. By encapsulating SCSI commands within IP packets, iSCSI enables efficient and reliable storage communication across local or wide-area networks. This technology finds applications in data centers, storage virtualization, and remote backups, offering a flexible and scalable solution for managing storage resources.

Latest Articles about iSCSI

NAS: Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a specialized storage device or server that provides centralized data storage and access over a network, usually using Ethernet connections. NAS systems are designed to offer a convenient and efficient way to store and share files among multiple users or devices within a home or office environment. Unlike traditional storage solutions, NAS devices operate independently and have their own operating systems and management interfaces. They are characterized by easy setup and configuration, making them accessible even to users with limited technical expertise. NAS devices can offer various features, including data redundancy through RAID configurations, remote access over the internet, automatic backup, media streaming, and even application hosting in some advanced models. As a versatile and user-friendly storage solution, NAS has become a popular choice for both personal and small business use.

Latest Articles about NAS

SAN: A Storage Area Network (SAN) is a high-speed and specialized network architecture designed to facilitate the connection of storage devices, such as disk arrays and tape libraries, to servers. Unlike traditional network-attached storage (NAS), which is file-based, SAN operates at the block level, enabling direct access to storage resources. SANs are known for their performance, scalability, and flexibility, making them ideal for data-intensive applications, large enterprises, and environments requiring high availability. SANs typically employ Fibre Channel or iSCSI protocols to establish dedicated and fast communication paths between servers and storage devices. With features like centralized management, efficient data replication, and snapshot capabilities, SANs offer advanced data storage, protection, and management options. Overall, SAN technology has revolutionized data storage and management, enabling organizations to efficiently handle complex storage requirements and ensure reliable data access.
