Introducing the DS224+ and DS124: Boosting Productivity and Data Management for Professionals

Synology, a leading provider of network-attached storage (NAS) solutions, has launched two new devices that are set to revolutionize file management and sharing for professionals. The DS224+ and DS124 come equipped with Synology Drive, a private cloud solution that offers cross-platform access and advanced privacy controls. With these new devices, professionals in all fields can enjoy increased productivity, the convenience of working from anywhere, and the simplicity of centralized data management.

One of the standout features of the DS224+ and DS124 is their versatile backup capabilities. Users can choose to continuously or manually back up their workstations, Laptops, and mobile devices. They can also create a backup schedule on Windows and macOS systems. For added protection, users can back up folders, system settings, and software packages stored on their Synology device to the cloud, secondary Synology systems, or external devices. Additionally, point-in-time snapshots of device data can be created for rapid restoration, which can be stored locally or remotely.

In addition to its file management capabilities, the DS224+ and DS124 also offer powerful video surveillance management. With support for over 8,300 validated IP cameras and ONVIF devices, the devices can transform into a robust surveillance management and recording platform using Synology Surveillance Station video management system (VMS). Users can easily set up and manage cameras through a highly configurable interface, encrypt recordings, and back them up for added security. Optional dual recording with Synology C2 Surveillance allows for storing footage in the cloud, enabling improved remote access and additional backup. End-to-end encryption ensures that streams are protected from unauthorized access, while low-Latency recording guarantees that footage is captured up until the last seconds before a camera stream becomes unavailable.

The DS224+ is designed to be a versatile edge deployment solution for small to moderate-sized teams. It offers one drive of data redundancy in a RAID configuration or two drive bays for storage. The device supports multi-site data synchronization using various methods, making it ideal for teams and branch offices looking to sync up with their central office.

On the other hand, the DS124 is purpose-built to help small business owners and professionals consolidate their data and boost productivity. With mobile apps for Synology Photos and Synology Drive, users can easily back up and synchronize files whether they are in the office or on the go. The DS124’s small desktop form factor and low power consumption make it particularly well-suited for entrepreneurs, business owners, and freelance creative professionals who want to streamline their workflows.

Technology Explained

NAS: Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a specialized storage device or server that provides centralized data storage and access over a network, usually using Ethernet connections. NAS systems are designed to offer a convenient and efficient way to store and share files among multiple users or devices within a home or office environment. Unlike traditional storage solutions, NAS devices operate independently and have their own operating systems and management interfaces. They are characterized by easy setup and configuration, making them accessible even to users with limited technical expertise. NAS devices can offer various features, including data redundancy through RAID configurations, remote access over the internet, automatic backup, media streaming, and even application hosting in some advanced models. As a versatile and user-friendly storage solution, NAS has become a popular choice for both personal and small business use.
