Intel's new 1st Gen Core Ultra "Meteor Lake" processors offer impressive graphics performance, outperforming AMD's Ryzen 7000 processors, while maintaining similar power efficiency and delivering a modest advantage in multi-threaded performance.

Intel has recently launched its 1st Gen Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” processors, and the benchmarks are in. According to Intel’s claims, these new CPUs offer a slight advantage over AMD’s Ryzen 7000 processors in multi-threaded performance, while delivering comparable single-threaded performance. However, where the Core Ultra processors truly shine is in their graphics performance, outperforming the Radeon 780M in most games.
Despite being built on the 4nm-class Intel 4 process node, the Core Ultra processors consume power at a similar rate to the Ryzen 7000 SoCs, which are built on TSMC N4. This means that Intel has managed to prioritize graphics performance without sacrificing power efficiency.
In terms of multi-threaded CPU performance, Intel claims that its Core Ultra 7 165H offers an 11% uplift over AMD’s Ryzen 7 7850U. This is a single-digit percentage increase compared to Intel’s previous generation Core i7-1370P. While Cinebench may not be Intel’s preferred benchmark, the Core Ultra 7 155H still manages to achieve impressive scores of 104 and 922 points in the single and multi-core tests, respectively. For reference, the Ryzen 7 7840 scores 96 and 729 points in the same tests. This indicates similar single-threaded performance but a significant 26% advantage for the Core Ultra 7 155H in multi-core performance.
When it comes to graphics performance, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H truly shines. In 3DMark TimeSpy, it achieves a graphics score of 10,429 points, surpassing the Ryzen 7 7840U’s score of 8,480 points by approximately 23%. Firestrike paints a similar picture, with the Core Ultra 7 155H achieving 18 FPS compared to the Ryzen 7 7840U’s 15 FPS. In League of Legends, the Core Ultra 7 155H averages an impressive 208 FPS, while the Ryzen 7 7840U lags behind at 138 FPS. Even the slowest of the bunch, the 13th Gen Core i7-1370p, only manages an average of 133 FPS. This means that the Core Ultra 7 holds a significant 50% lead over the Ryzen 7 7840U in this particular game.
To further showcase its gaming expertise, Intel provides a 1080p gaming performance chart using a power envelope of 28W. On average, the Core Ultra 7 155H proves to be 10% faster than the Ryzen 7 7840U, with notable performance deltas of up to 70% and 41% in games like Dying Light 2 and Final Fantasy XIV, respectively.
These benchmarks from Intel’s Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” processors demonstrate their impressive gaming performance, surpassing AMD’s Ryzen 7000 products in graphics capabilities. While the multi-threaded advantage may be modest, the Core Ultra processors still deliver comparable single-threaded performance.
