Intel’s upcoming Arrow Lake-S desktop CPU platform has had its performance targets confirmed in a leaked slide shared on the AnandTech forums. The slide, intentionally obscured by the user uzzi38, reveals that Intel is aiming for a 5% improvement in single-threaded workloads and an average of 15% improvement in multi-threaded applications compared to the current Raptor Lake Refresh series.
To provide some context, Arrow Lake-S will be the next-generation desktop CPU platform utilizing the new LGA-1851 socket. Due to the cancellation of Meteor Lake-S, Intel will not be releasing new chipsets this year. Instead, board partners are introducing a refreshed Z790 motherboard series with support for Wi-Fi7.
Although Arrow Lake-S is not expected to hit the market until the second half of 2024, internal performance goals have already been established. The architecture is projected to deliver the aforementioned performance improvements, likely in comparison to Raptor Lake Refresh.
These performance targets align with information previously shared by Igor’sLAB in July. The next-generation desktop and mobile platforms will feature a new microarchitecture, Lion Cove for Performance Cores and Skymont for Efficient Cores. These platforms will also utilize the Intel 20A process node and incorporate the Xe-LPG architecture based on Alchemist. While the CPU architectures may not bring a significant performance boost, the GPUs are expected to be at least twice as fast as those used in Alder/Raptor Lake CPUs.
The initial generation of Arrow Lake-S is expected to have a core configuration similar to Raptor Lake, with 8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores. However, Intel plans to launch a Refresh version with twice as many E-Cores in the future.
Interestingly, the leaked slide also mentions Battlemage discrete GPUs for Intel’s Ultimate Gaming Performance platform, suggesting that these new GPUs will be ready for the Arrow Lake-S launch.
In summary, Intel’s Arrow Lake-S desktop CPU platform aims to deliver a modest performance improvement over its predecessor, Raptor Lake Refresh. With a focus on single-threaded and multi-threaded workloads, Intel is positioning Arrow Lake-S as a competitive option in the desktop CPU market.
