  • AMD RDNA3 architecture brings significant improvements in ray tracing capabilities
  • Exynos 2400 offers 1.7x increase in CPU performance compared to its predecessor
  • 14.7x acceleration in AI workload

Xclipse 940, the latest offering from Samsung, has officially introduced AMD RDNA3 architecture into the realm of ultra-low power devices. This marks a significant milestone for AMD as they venture into the world of low-power SoCs.

While the Exynos 2200 did not receive an upgrade to the 2300 variant with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, there are rumors that Samsung may reintroduce their in-house Exynos design for the next-generation S24 series. This is expected to bring a substantial boost in performance.

Samsung has confirmed that the Exynos 2400, which powers the S24 series, boasts a remarkable 1.7x increase in CPU performance compared to its predecessor, the 2200. Additionally, it delivers an impressive 14.7x acceleration in AI workload. It remains unclear whether the AI accelerator is a Samsung or AMD design.

One of the standout features of the Exynos 2400 is its utilization of AMD’s RDNA3 architecture. This brings significant improvements in Ray Tracing capabilities, enhancing realism and immersion in gaming. The GPU configuration details have not been disclosed by Samsung, but it’s evident that gaming is a Focal point for the Xclipse 940.

The Xclipse 920, equipped with 6 RDNA2 Compute Units, was on average 30% slower than the Snapdragon Gen 1. Rumors suggest that Samsung plans to use the Exynos 2400 in select regional versions of the Galaxy S24 and S24+ models, while the Ultra version is expected to exclusively feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

Leaked tests indicate that the current state of the Exynos 2400 GPU is slower than the Adreno 740 found in Snapdragon 8 Gen2. However, it’s important to note that this may be a validation platform undergoing optimization, as the Galaxy S24 series is not set to launch until Q1 2024.

In summary, the Xclipse 940 with AMD RDNA3 architecture marks a significant step for AMD into the low-power SoC market. While specific GPU configuration details are yet to be revealed, the focus on gaming and the promise of enhanced ray tracing capabilities make it an intriguing prospect for mobile gamers.
