As training AI servers predominantly rely on DRAM for high-speed computing, the growth rate for server DRAM is anticipated to outpace that of NAND Flash.

Turning our attention to smartphones, while chipmakers are dedicated to enhancing processing performance, the absence of new AI functionalities has somewhat limited the impact of AI on these devices. In 2023, memory prices plummeted due to oversupply, resulting in a 17.5% increase in average DRAM capacity and a 19.2% boost in NAND Flash capacity per smartphone. However, with no new applications expected in 2024, the growth rate for both DRAM and NAND Flash content per box is projected to slow down to 14.1% and 9.3%, respectively.

In the notebook market, Microsoft’s AI PC specifications necessitate CPUs with a capability of over 40 TOPS (trillion operations per second). Processors like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite, AMD’s Ryzen 8000 series (Strix Point), and Intel’s Lunar Lake meet these requirements. However, widespread availability of notebooks equipped with these powerful CPUs is expected only in the latter half of 2024, which limits short-term incentives for increasing memory capacity.

For AI PCs, the primary focus lies in expanding DRAM capacity to 16 GB, with no corresponding demand for a 1 TB SSD. Consequently, the year-over-year growth rate for DRAM in Laptops is projected to be around 12.4%. This growth is expected to gain further momentum in 2025 as AI PCs enter mass production. On the other hand, client SSDs are also witnessing an upward trend in terms of content per box. However, due to a sharp rebound in NAND Flash prices, their annual growth rate is estimated to be a more modest 9.7%.
