NVIDIA is launching a new update for their app, featuring 120 FPS AV1 video capture, automatic GPU tuning, and a redesigned in-game overlay, with plans to add more features and migrate GeForce Experience users by the end of the year.

The nVidia app has become an indispensable tool for gamers and creators who rely on NVIDIA GPUs in their PCs and Laptops. With the aim of modernizing and unifying the NVIDIA Control Panel, Geforce Experience, and RTX Experience, NVIDIA is launching a new update on June 4th at 3am PT, packed with exciting new features.
One of the highlights of the beta update is the addition of 120 FPS AV1 video capture. This feature significantly enhances the clarity and quality of recordings, thanks to the improved encoding efficiency of AV1. By utilizing the eighth-generation NVIDIA Encoders (NVENC) on GeForce RTX 40 Series Graphics Cards and laptop GPUs, AV1 produces higher quality videos without requiring more disk space. Gamers who record their gameplay will particularly benefit from the substantial disk space savings, which can also help reduce input/output-related stutters and accelerate loading times.
To showcase the benefits of AV1, NVIDIA has captured the opening cutscene from Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition using both AV1 and H264 codecs at a commonly used recording and streaming bit rate of 10 mbps. The AV1 recording clearly demonstrates fewer artifacts, reduced color banding, and preserved detail in fast-motion scenes, highlighting the fidelity of Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition with maxed-out PC settings and DLSS 3 Frame Generation.
To take advantage of this feature, users can simply open the NVIDIA app, access the Settings menu, enable the NVIDIA overlay if not already activated, and customize their video capture settings according to their preferences. Additionally, the app offers various other features such as in-game system stats, image enhancing filters, automatic high-quality HDR, AI filters, and more.
Another exciting addition to the NVIDIA app is the Performance Panel and one-click automatic GPU tuning. This feature allows owners of GeForce RTX desktop graphics cards and laptops to monitor and maximize the potential of their GPUs. The automatic GPU tuning feature scans system performance characteristics and offers one-click optimization, ensuring users get the best performance out of their GPUs. Power users can also manually adjust voltage, power, temperature, and fan speed targets for more customized tuning.
The In-Game Overlay has also undergone a comprehensive redesign in this update, with improvements to the user interface for Photo Mode and simplified exit options. Users can now close the overlay by clicking outside of the menu, eliminating the need to press the “escape” key. Additionally, GPU power has been added to the Statistics section, allowing users to track GPU usage in-game and in the app.
As a reward for NVIDIA app users, NVIDIA is offering 3 months of access to PC Game Pass for free starting June 4th at 6am PT. PC Game Pass provides access to high-quality, day-one games, including titles enhanced with NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Reflex, and ray-traced effects. Gamers can enjoy immersive experiences in games like Forza Horizon 5, Forza Motorsport, and Minecraft with RTX.
NVIDIA values user feedback and plans to continue adding the remaining NVIDIA Control Panel options in future updates, as well as introducing new features like DLSS controls and multi-monitor support for RTX HDR. The goal is to enhance the user experience, improve client performance, and pioneer RTX innovations. By the end of the year, GeForce Experience users will be migrated to the new NVIDIA app.
