  • Enables SMBs to have local control over sensitive ML data
  • Cost-effective solution for training larger language models

Phison Electronics, a important provider of NAND controllers and storage solutions, has announced its aiDAPTIV+ partnerships with industry leaders ASUS, Gigabyte, Maingear, and MediaTek. The collaboration aims to showcase aiDAPTIV+, a hybrid hardware and software solution that enables small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to have local control over their sensitive machine learning (ML) data.

While foundational training of large language models (LLMs) provides a broad understanding of language, aiDAPTIV+ takes it a step further by enabling fine-tuning that tailors these models to specific business needs. By combining commodity workstation hardware with aiDAPTIV+ software and first-generation aiDAPTIVCache Series ai100 SSDs, businesses can now train larger models within a workstation form-factor.

Wallace Santos, the founder and CEO of MAINGEAR, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that the Pro AI Series workstations, powered by Phison aiDAPTIV+, provide users with powerful AI training capabilities at an affordable cost. This advancement ensures that SMBs, universities, and research facilities can gain a competitive advantage in an industry that was previously dominated by large investments.

The key features of aiDAPTIV+ include ease of use, cost-effectiveness, and privacy. The solution is designed to reduce training complexity and infrastructure requirements, allowing end-users to focus on training their data rather than training engineers. Leveraging the cost-effective aiDAPTIVCache SSDs enables businesses to increase memory capacity and train with more data. Furthermore, aiDAPTIV+ is an on-premises solution, ensuring that businesses retain control over their valuable data.

ASUS has integrated Phison’s aiDAPTIV+ into its data center solution to enhance performance without increasing costs. Paul Ju, Corporate Vice President and CTO of Data Center at ASUS, emphasized the partnership’s commitment to innovation and competitiveness in the market.

GIGABYTE, known for its expertise in the PC market, has successfully collaborated with Phison in the past. Etay Lee, CEO of GIGABYTE, highlighted the integration of Phison’s AI technology solution, aiDAPTIV+, into their AI server architecture. By using SSDs to extend GPU memory and reduce the cost of AI computations, GIGABYTE aims to popularize AI-assisted applications worldwide.

Phison aiDAPTIV+ has also partnered with MediaTek’s DaVinci generative AI platform. This collaboration allows businesses to have local control over sensitive information throughout the training and execution processes.

At GTC 2024, Phison will showcase its full suite of PCIe Gen 5 ecosystem products, including X200 SSDs, PS7100 Series Redrivers, and PS7200 Series Retimers. These products offer high-performance, signal conditioning, and support for advanced applications in data centers and automotive industries.

Phison will be exhibiting at GTC 2024 in booth #1826. For more information on aiDAPTIV+ and Phison’s PCIe Gen5 Ecosystem product line, visit their website.

Technology Explained

GPU: GPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit and is a specialized type of processor designed to handle graphics-intensive tasks. It is used in the computer industry to render images, videos, and 3D graphics. GPUs are used in gaming consoles, PCs, and mobile devices to provide a smooth and immersive gaming experience. They are also used in the medical field to create 3D models of organs and tissues, and in the automotive industry to create virtual prototypes of cars. GPUs are also used in the field of artificial intelligence to process large amounts of data and create complex models. GPUs are becoming increasingly important in the computer industry as they are able to process large amounts of data quickly and efficiently.

NAND: NAND technology is a type of non-volatile memory that is used in many computer applications. It is a type of flash memory that is used to store data in a non-volatile manner, meaning that the data is not lost when the power is turned off. NAND technology is used in many computer applications, such as solid-state drives, USB flash drives, digital cameras, and memory cards. It is also used in many embedded systems, such as cell phones, tablets, and other consumer electronics. NAND technology is a reliable and cost-effective way to store data, making it a popular choice for many computer applications.

PCIe: PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) is a high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard for connecting components such as graphics cards, sound cards, and network cards to a motherboard. It is the most widely used interface in the computer industry today, and is used in both desktop and laptop computers. PCIe is capable of providing up to 16 times the bandwidth of the older PCI standard, allowing for faster data transfer speeds and improved performance. It is also used in a variety of other applications, such as storage, networking, and communications. PCIe is an essential component of modern computing, and its applications are only expected to grow in the future.

PCIe Gen5: PCIe Gen5, or PCI Express Generation 5, is the latest technology advancement in the computer industry. It is the first major upgrade to the current PCIe standard. Compared to PCIe Gen3, PCIe Gen5 increases bandwidth throughput that is almost double, resulting in faster data transfer speeds. This means that it can provide higher data transfer rates for output devices like graphics cards, network cards, RAID controllers, and sound cards. It also supports faster NVMe storage devices, allowing for a smoother gaming experience. PCIe Gen5 can also support multiple concurrent data streams and is backward compatible with older PCIe slots. In the computer industry, PCIe Gen5 allows for faster data transfer, improved graphics quality, faster memory access, and higher GPU performance, making the technology ideal for gaming and server builds.
