Another notable product showcased was AiMX, SK hynix’s generative AI accelerator card. AiMX specializes in large language models using GDDR6-AiM chips that leverage PIM technology. This accelerator card significantly reduces AI inference time and power consumption compared to GPU-based systems.

CXL, a standardized interface that enhances the efficiency of HPC systems, was also highlighted at SK hynix’s booth. With flexible memory expansion capabilities, CXL is promising for AI and big data-related applications. SK hynix showcased its Niagara CXL disaggregated memory prototype platform, which improves system performance in distributed processing systems for AI and big data.

SK hynix also presented its collaboration with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) on a CXL-based computational memory solution (CMS). This product accelerates indirect memory accesses while reducing data movement, benefiting various memory-intensive domains like AI and graph analytics.

In addition to memory solutions, SK hynix displayed its data center solutions, including the DDR5 Registered Dual In-line Memory Module (RDIMM) and enterprise SSD (eSSD) products. The DDR5 RDIMM, equipped with the fifth generation of 10 nm process technology, reaches speeds of up to 6,400 Mbps, making it suitable for AI computing in high-performance servers. The eSSD products, such as the PS1030 with the industry’s fastest sequential read speed of 14,800 MBps, cater to big data and machine learning applications.

During the conference, SK hynix employees delivered presentations on the application of their memory solutions for AI and HPC. They discussed topics such as cost-effective large language model inference using SK hynix’s AiM PIM device, CXL-based memory disaggregation for HPC and AI workloads, and accelerating data analytics using object-based computational storage in HPC.

SK hynix’s participation in SC23 underscores its commitment to developing solutions that advance AI and HPC. As a globally leading AI memory provider, SK hynix continues to push the boundaries of memory technology to meet the evolving needs of the industry.
