MediaTek has just launched its latest flagship mobile chip, the Dimensity 9300, and it’s bringing some serious power to the table. With its unique All Big Core design, this chip combines impressive performance with MediaTek’s power efficiency, promising unparalleled user experiences in gaming, video capture, and on-device generative AI processing.

According to Joe Chen, President at MediaTek, the Dimensity 9300 is the company’s most powerful flagship chip to date, thanks to its architecture. The chip features an upgraded on-chip AI Processing Unit (APU) 790 that significantly enhances generative AI performance and energy efficiency for faster and more secure edge computing. The APU 790 doubles the integer and floating-point operations performance while reducing power consumption by an impressive 45%.

One of the standout features of the Dimensity 9300 is its support for large AI models. MediaTek has developed mixed-precision INT4 quantization technology, combined with NeuroPilot memory hardware compression, to efficiently utilize memory bandwidth and reduce memory requirements for larger AI models. The APU 790 also supports NeuroPilot Fusion, which enables continuous LoRA low-rank adaptation and can handle large language models with up to 33B parameters.

In terms of AI applications, the Dimensity 9300 will support mainstream large language models like Meta Llama 2, Baichuan 2, and Baidu AI LLM. This opens up exciting possibilities for developers to create multi-modal generative AI applications that provide users with text, image, and music-based AI experiences.

When it comes to gaming, the Dimensity 9300 doesn’t disappoint. It features ARM’s latest flagship GPU, the Immortalis-G720, which delivers a nearly 46% boost in GPU performance compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9200. Remarkably, this performance increase comes without any increase in power consumption. In fact, the Dimensity 9300 offers a 40% reduction in GPU power consumption while maintaining the same level of performance as the previous generation chipset.

Photography and video capture also receive a significant upgrade with the Dimensity 9300. The chip combines a low-power AI-ISP with always-on HDR up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (FPS). It also supports a cinematic mode at 4K and 30 FPS with real-time bokeh tracking for professional-quality bokeh enhancements. Additionally, the Dimensity 9300 features AI Noise Reduction (AI-NR) and AI processing on RAW photos and videos. It even supports the new Ultra HDR format in Android 14, ensuring that your smartphone photography and videography will be top-notch.

The Dimensity 9300’s display system takes advantage of the chip’s powerful on-device AI capabilities to detect primary objects and background images in real-time. With the MiraVision Picture Quality (PQ) engine, it dynamically adjusts the optimal contrast, sharpness, and color of primary objects, rivaling the picture quality of flagship DTVs.

Other notable features of the Dimensity 9300 include its powerful processing capabilities. Built on TSMC’s third-generation 4 nm process, it boasts four Arm Cortex-X4 cores operating at speeds of up to 3.25 GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores operating at up to 2.0 GHz. This configuration ensures maximum performance for demanding tasks.

The chip also supports faster display speeds, with WQHD at 180 Hz and 4K up to 120 Hz, offering stunning visuals. It even supports dual active display for foldable form factors, providing a seamless multitasking experience.

Of course, no flagship chip would be complete without seamless 5G connectivity. The Dimensity 9300’s 5G R16 modem supports both Sub-6 GHz and mmWave, with MediaTek’s UltraSave 3.0+ technology for improved power efficiency.

When it comes to memory, the Dimensity 9300 supports LPDDR5T 9600 Mbps memory, currently the fastest speed available, ensuring speedy data access and smooth multitasking.
