Qualcomm recently launched its new Snapdragon X Elite chip designed specifically for lightweight Laptops. The company confidently compared its chip to industry leaders like AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, Intel Core i9-13800H, and Apple M2, suggesting that it can compete with these important brands. To support their claims, Qualcomm organized live demonstrations for journalists and analysts, showcasing new reference systems.

The demonstrations included two systems with different screen sizes and power consumption levels. Despite the variations in screen resolution and battery size, the CPU’s synthetic tests remained unaffected. The modification in power consumption directly impacted the chip’s processing capabilities, resulting in impressive clock speeds.

For the GPU demo, Qualcomm opted for cross-platform and relatively older benchmarks to showcase Adreno’s GPU performance. The company highlighted that the Adreno GPU consistently outperforms the integrated GPUs from AMD and Intel in comparable systems. While the Apple M2 chip outperformed one of the demo configurations, it still fell short of the performance delivered by the 80W system.

Although the Snapdragon X Elite chip’s integrated GPU performance seems noteworthy, its gaming capabilities are of greater importance. In a comparison conducted by Geekerwan on YouTube, the chip achieved decent frame rates in the game Control at lower presets and resolutions. However, it did not support Ray Tracing, and its performance fell short of dedicated RTX GPUs.

Qualcomm also provided some synthetic benchmarks for the CPU cores, which may not be as interesting to GPU enthusiasts. These performance metrics offer a glimpse into the capabilities of the Snapdragon X Elite chip. However, it is important to note that the chip won’t be available for approximately six months, allowing other major companies like AMD, Intel, and Apple to make architectural updates in their upcoming releases.

While Qualcomm’s X Elite chip shows promise, it is crucial to consider that the PC market will have evolved significantly by the time it becomes available.
