NVIDIA has released DLSS 3.5, a free update for RTX GPUs that brings Ray Reconstruction to their Omniverse platform, allowing creators to build custom 3D tools and apps with greater graphical fidelity and upscaling capabilities, as well as real-time ray tracing inference and higher-quality previews.

  • DLSS 3.5 update is free for owners of RTX GPUs
  • AI network trained on NVIDIA supercomputers generates higher-quality pixels
  • NVIDIA GPU-accelerated MadMapper software used to map custom visuals onto house

nVidia has finally released the highly anticipated DLSS 3.5 update, which brings Ray Reconstruction to their Omniverse platform. This update allows creators to connect and build custom 3D tools and apps with greater graphical fidelity and upscaling capabilities. The good news is that it’s free for owners of RTX GPUs.

One of the standout features of DLSS 3.5 is the replacement of hand-tuned denoisers with an AI network trained on NVIDIA supercomputers. This network generates higher-quality pixels in between sampled rays, resulting in enhanced ray-traced image quality on Geforce RTX GPUs. Traditionally, previewing content in the viewport could lead to subpar image quality, but with DLSS 3.5, creators can enjoy high-quality preview images and significantly reduce rendering time.

To take full advantage of DLSS 3.5, users can enable the feature by accessing the “Render Settings” under “Ray Tracing” and turning on the “New Denoiser (experimental)” option in the “Direct Lighting” tab. This allows for real-time ray tracing inference and higher-quality previews when building and iterating scenes using NVIDIA Omniverse and the USD Composer app.

In the spirit of Halloween, NVIDIA Creative Director Sabour Amirazodi has once again impressed his neighbors with his annual installation called the “Haunted Sanctuary.” This project involves projection mapping onto his house, creating a spooky and immersive experience for all.

Amirazodi used NVIDIA GPU-accelerated MadMapper software, along with a DSLR camera connected to his mobile workstation powered by an NVIDIA RTX A5000 GPU, to map custom visuals onto his house. By shooting a series of lines and capturing photos, he was able to create a 3D model based on the projector’s Point of View. With the help of Cinema 4D’s camera-matching tools, he recreated the scene and applied mapping and perspective correction edits.

Thanks to GPU acceleration, Amirazodi was able to smoothly interact with complex 3D models and animate the characters. He praised the availability of third-party NVIDIA GPU-accelerated 3D renderers like V-Ray, OctaneRender, and Redshift in Cinema 4D, stating that GPUs are essential for serious creators.

Amirazodi’s workflow was streamlined by GPU acceleration, saving him countless hours. Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Media Encoder all benefited from GPU acceleration, allowing him to create and render animations efficiently. He then loaded the sequences onto BrightSign digital players for a synchronized show.

All of Amirazodi’s hard work and long nights paid off when he saw the joy it brought to his kids and the entire neighborhood. With NVIDIA’s powerful GPUs and software, he was able to create a hauntingly memorable experience that truly captured the Halloween spirit.
