Modder LukeFZ has released a free mod for Starfield that brings DLSS-G support to the game, allowing users with GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs to access improved framerates and upscaling options.

  • Free mod that brings DLSS-G support to Starfield
  • Improves framerate from 56 to 110 FPS when using DLSS-G
  • Compatible with all RTX GPUs

DLSS Frame Generation Comes to Starfield with Free Mod

LukeFZ, a talented modder, has released a new mod for Starfield that brings DLSS-G support to the game. This is particularly exciting news for players who were disappointed by the lack of DLSS and XeSS support in the official release, due to Bethesda’s exclusive partnership with AMD. While the game relies solely on FSR2 implementation, modders have stepped in to fill the gap.

It’s important to note that some mods offering DLSS and XeSS support for Starfield require payments, but LukeFZ’s mod is completely free. This mod replaces the existing FSR2 implementation with DLSS3, allowing users to access the same scaling options as before. However, it’s worth mentioning that the technology still appears as FSR in the menu, even though it relies on DLLs borrowed from nVidia’s DLSS3.

According to LukeFZ, this mod is expected to significantly improve the game’s framerate, boosting it from 56 to 110 FPS when using DLSS-G (the version with Frame Generation). It’s worth noting that DLSS-G can only be enabled on Geforce RTX 40 series GPUs, but the DLSS3 library, which offers upscaling improvements over DLSS2, is compatible with all RTX GPUs.

While this mod is still a work in progress, early reports suggest that users may encounter some bugs, which could be attributed to either Bethesda’s side or the mod’s implementation. So far, users have reported 37 bugs.

LukeFZ’s DLSS3 mod has already gained significant traction, with 18K downloads, while their previous mod introducing DLSS2/XeSS has amassed an impressive 44K downloads.

FSR: AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is a type of rendering technique that looks to boost framerates in games and enable quality high-resolution gaming. It is an software upscaling technology, designed to improve the performance of games without loss of image quality and graphical detail. It works by rendering frames at a lower resolution and then using an open-source spatial upscaling algorithm to make the game look as though it's running at a higher resolution13. It is different from Nvidia's DLSS, which uses machine learning and temporal upscaling to achieve similar results. FSR is part of AMD's FidelityFX image toolkit and does not require specific training or special-purpose logic within the GPU. AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) scales across a broad spectrum of new and older products, including integrated graphics, and is optimized for AMD RDNA and AMD RDNA 2 architecture-based Radeon RX 6000 and RX 5000 Series graphics cards. FSR is also supported on select NVIDIA graphics cards.

Geforce: Geforce is a line of graphics processing units (GPUs) developed by Nvidia. It is the most popular GPU used in the computer industry today. Geforce GPUs are used in gaming PCs, workstations, and high-end laptops. They are also used in virtual reality systems, artificial intelligence, and deep learning applications. Geforce GPUs are designed to deliver high performance and power efficiency, making them ideal for gaming and other demanding applications. They are also capable of rendering high-resolution graphics and providing smooth, realistic visuals. Geforce GPUs are used in a variety of applications, from gaming to professional workstations, and are the preferred choice for many computer users.

XeSS: XeSS (XML-enabled Scripting System) is a powerful scripting language developed by Microsoft that enables developers to create dynamic web applications. It is based on the XML language and is designed to be easy to use and understand. XeSS is used in the computer industry to create dynamic web applications that can be used to create interactive websites, web services, and web applications.
