NVIDIA's DLSS 3.5, combined with RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI) and Ray Reconstruction, is revolutionizing the gaming experience in Cyberpunk 2077, offering improved image quality and higher frame rates for owners of GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs.
- Ray Reconstruction replaces traditional hand-tuned ray tracing denoisers with an AI model, resulting in improved image quality.
- NVIDIA's DLSS 3.5, combined with RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI), allows developers to accurately replicate the behavior of light in scenes with multiple light sources.
- Even users with GeForce RTX 20 and 30 Series GPUs can enhance their gaming experience by incorporating Ray Reconstruction into their AI-powered toolkit.
Cyberpunk 2077’s Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode, powered by nVidia DLSS 3.5, is revolutionizing the future of gaming. With the latest update, players can experience full ray tracing technology in the neon-lit world of Cyberpunk 2077. NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.5, combined with RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI), allows developers to accurately replicate the behavior of light in scenes with multiple light sources.
One of the key advancements is the introduction of Ray Reconstruction, which replaces traditional hand-tuned ray tracing denoisers with an AI model. This results in improved image quality, particularly noticeable in scenes with complex lighting like car headlights. DLSS 3.5, along with technologies like Ray Reconstruction, offers higher accuracy in rendering lighting effects.
While owners of Geforce RTX 40 Series GPUs can enjoy the benefits of Super Resolution and Frame Generation with Ray Reconstruction, even users with GeForce RTX 20 and 30 Series GPUs can enhance their gaming experience by incorporating Ray Reconstruction into their AI-powered toolkit alongside Super Resolution. However, it’s worth noting that Turing and Ampere series GPUs do not support Frame Generation, which is essential for achieving high frame rates.
NVIDIA’s own benchmarks reveal that without DLSS 3 and Frame Generation, the RTX 40 GPUs can only deliver around 60+ FPS at 1080p resolution with RTX 4090. At 4K resolution, even the RTX 4090 struggles to maintain an average of 24 frames per second without DLSS. However, once DLSS is enabled, the performance drastically improves, with even the RTX 4060 delivering over 60 FPS at 1080p resolution. Unfortunately, NVIDIA did not provide benchmarks for other Graphics Cards, but reviewers have shared additional data.
TechPowerUP’s review covers a wide range of graphics cards, including AMD and Intel, all running full ray tracing without upscaling technology. It becomes evident that only a select few GPUs can provide a playable experience without the assistance of DLSS 3.5 and Frame Generation.
For a deeper understanding of DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction and its impact on Cyberpunk 2077, Digital Foundry recently conducted an interview with CD Projekt Red and NVIDIA. This insightful video sheds light on the technology and offers a glimpse into the future of gaming graphics.
The Cyberpunk 2077 update, featuring the same graphics enhancements as the Phantom Liberty DLC, is now available for download. The update is free for all owners of the base game, while the DLC itself will be released on September 26th.
