  • CPU performance, integrated graphics capabilities, and battery life are impressive

Exciting news for tech enthusiasts in Taiwan! Framework, the innovative laptop company, is thrilled to announce that ordering is now available in Taiwan. This means that customers can get their hands on the highly sought-after Framework Laptop 13 (13th Gen Intel Core) with a Traditional Chinese keyboard, as well as pre-order the AMD Ryzen 7040 Series and Framework Laptop 16. Additionally, the modules in the Framework Marketplace are also up for grabs.

This launch holds significant importance for Framework as their manufacturing site for Laptops, main warehouse, and a significant portion of their team are all based in Taiwan. With local operations in place, shipping to customers in Taiwan will be lightning-fast. Framework is committed to expanding its infrastructure to reach more customers worldwide. Currently available in 13 countries, they are actively preparing to expand further. To help them decide where to go next, interested individuals can register their interest on the country selection page.

In other exciting news, Framework is proud to announce that mass production of the Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 7040 Series) has commenced. Although there were some electrical issues discovered during validation and a delay in firmware delivery from suppliers, Framework has been providing regular updates to customers in Batches 1-3 whose orders were at risk of being delayed. This week, Surface Mount Production of Mainboards (SMT) kicked off in Taiwan, followed by Final Assembly, Test, and Pack Out of laptops (FATP) in the same factory. Once completed, the inventory will be transferred to the warehouse for shipment. With doubled production capacity and a larger logistics warehouse, Framework is confident in swiftly clearing the pre-order backlog.

While the AMD Ryzen 7040 Series offers impressive performance, there are a few quirks that Framework has addressed or is actively working on. Similar to previous iterations, Expansion Card placement affects power consumption. The back two slots have retimers that remain in higher power states when used with HDMI, DP, or USB-A Expansion Cards. Framework is diligently working on firmware solutions for HDMI and DP, and exploring hardware options for a new USB-A Expansion Card in the future. Another issue is that the retail Windows 11 installer lacks drivers for the RZ616 WiFi module used by Framework. However, the Quick Start guide being prepared will contain instructions to overcome this hurdle. On the bright side, Linux support is looking promising, with Fedora 38 working out of the box and Ubuntu LTS functioning with a manual update to a more recent kernel.

Overall, Framework is thrilled with the progress made on the Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 7040 Series). This marks the fifth iteration of the Framework Laptop 13, and each iteration brings them closer to perfection. They are particularly pleased with the CPU performance, integrated graphics capabilities, and battery life (when using an Expansion Card configuration that avoids retimer power issues). Framework eagerly anticipates the feedback from customers and reviewers as they experience this impressive product firsthand.
