- Full compatibility with current generation through BIOS update
- No need for a new Z890 chipset
- Transition from Core i3/i5/i7/i9 naming schema to Core 3/4/5/9 (Ultra) in future generations
Intel Raptor Lake-S Refresh, the upcoming 14th Gen Core series from Intel, has been confirmed by ASUS. The motherboard manufacturer has launched a dedicated microsite showcasing its latest Z790, H770, and B760 motherboards, explicitly stating that they are designed for the upcoming Intel 14th Gen Core series. This confirmation comes ahead of Intel’s official announcement, which is expected to take place at the Innovation 2023 event next month.
The fact that these motherboards utilize the same LGA-1700 socket as the current generation ensures full compatibility through a BIOS update, providing a flexible and adaptable ecosystem for users. Interestingly, Intel has chosen not to introduce a Z890 chipset for this generation, allowing motherboard manufacturers to refresh their products with innovative features and capabilities.
It’s worth noting that the Raptor Lake-S Refresh will be the last Core generation to use the LGA-1700 socket. Its successor, Arrow Lake-S, is scheduled for a 2024 launch, followed by the Panther Lake-S architecture. Additionally, Intel will be transitioning from the current Core i3/i5/i7/i9 naming schema to Core 3/4/5/9 (Ultra) in future generations.
With this confirmation from ASUS, anticipation is building for Intel’s 14th Gen Core series. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the official announcement next month.
