- Full-volume encryption for enhanced storage performance and greater peace of mind
- Improved file sharing and collaboration with watermarks and download policies
- New scale-out systems for file and object storage with faster performance and scalability
Synology, a leading provider of data management and IT infrastructure solutions, has announced its upcoming solutions that aim to empower businesses, enhance resilience, and address IT challenges through hybrid cloud architectures and an expanding ecosystem of integrated solutions. These innovations across various products set new standards for reliability, security, and scalability.
One of the key updates is the introduction of DSM 7.2, expected in early 2023. This update will bring full-volume encryption, offering enhanced storage performance and greater peace of mind. Additionally, DSM 7.2 will introduce “write once, read many” (WORM) folders and immutable backups in Hyper Backup to protect data against ransomware and cyber threats.
Synology Drive, the private cloud solution, will also receive updates to improve file sharing and collaboration. Watermarks and download policies will enhance file security during sharing between teams, while remote wipe capabilities will minimize security risks by removing synced folders from stolen devices. The update will also simplify mass deployment with automatic login using AD credentials and streamlined provisioning of backup and syncing tasks.
In DSM 7.2, sharing data over SMB will be safer and more efficient. Cross-protocol file locking between SMB file shares and Synology Drive will prevent editing or overwriting of in-use files, while SMB multichannel transfer support will significantly boost SMB file transfer performance.
Synology is also set to launch new scale-out systems for file and object storage in 2023. These systems will offer faster performance and scalability, supporting clusters of up to 60 servers for over 12 PB of effective storage. With near-linear scaling of performance and capabilities as more units are added, these clusters will provide high availability and support Synology’s data protection suites.
In terms of data protection, Synology is introducing a new management platform for Active Backup and C2 Backup. This platform aims to simplify backup task management across an organization’s IT infrastructure, regardless of location or scale. It brings together Synology’s on-premises and cloud-based solutions, providing efficient tools for IT admins and MSPs to protect and recover devices and services.
Synology is also launching the 500 Series IP cameras in early 2023. These cameras offer superior performance, security, and integration, with all camera settings managed directly from Surveillance Station. The cameras feature AI-powered capabilities such as guarding intrusion detection zones and dedicated processing for people and vehicle searches in the video frame. With weatherproof design and compliance with security standards, these cameras are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Active Insight, Synology’s hybrid-cloud service, is evolving to include automated breach and misuse detection. The new data loss prevention feature monitors user activities and file checksums to prevent data breaches. It can send alerts or take actions, such as disconnecting infected clients, when thresholds or rules are triggered.
Synology’s C2 Identity platform is also receiving improvements to enable passwordless logins to online and local services and devices. Integration with Windows Hello and Apple’s Face ID/Touch ID will facilitate easy authentication on endpoints managed by C2 Identity. Additionally, a user portal will allow employees using managed endpoints to be automatically signed in to web services supporting SAML.
Lastly, Synology is launching the WRX560 Wi-Fi 6 Router with advanced networking features. This router, built on the SRM 1.3 platform, offers high-end network management features at a more affordable price point. With powerful dual-band radios and a 2.5GbE LAN/WAN port, the WRX560 can be used as a mesh node or standalone solution for homes and offices.
Synology’s upcoming solutions demonstrate its commitment to providing businesses with innovative tools to enhance data management, protection, and IT infrastructure security. These advancements will enable businesses to achieve more, become more resilient, and better solve IT challenges in an increasingly complex digital landscape.
