  • Compact and affordable all-in-one solution
  • Reliable performance, power efficiency, and support for the Btrfs file system
  • Compatibility with Hybrid Share for local performance and scalability of C2 Storage

Synology Inc. is excited to introduce the newest addition to its RackStation+ lineup, the Synology RackStation RS422+. This compact and affordable All-in-One solution is perfect for edge server applications, small businesses, and home lab owners who need reliable data management, sharing, synchronization, and backup capabilities.

The RS422+ is an attractive option for small businesses and home lab owners seeking a compact and dependable backup or edge storage solution at a cost-effective price. According to Michael Wang, product manager at Synology Inc., this expansion in the RackStation series provides customers with more variety, allowing them to find the most suitable Synology solution for their specific needs.

Despite its small footprint, the RS422+ offers big value. With a depth of just 327.5 mm (~12.89 in) with server handles installed, this compact 1U chassis fits perfectly in a 2-post or wall mount rack. Its reliable performance, power efficiency, and support for the Btrfs file system, which enables snapshots and self-healing of data, make it an ideal solution for edge server applications.

Additionally, the RS422+ features dual 1GbE ports with support for link aggregation, making it perfect for use as a mail, surveillance, or directory server. Its built-in high availability feature allows it to be clustered with another RS422+ to form a high-availability cluster, ensuring maximum uptime for critical services. Upgrading network speeds is also a breeze thanks to support for 10GbE Ethernet plug-n-play upgrade modules.

One of the standout features of the RS422+ is its compatibility with Hybrid Share. By combining the RS422+ with C2 Storage, users can enjoy the best of both worlds. Hybrid Share combines the local performance of Synology NAS with the scalability of C2 Storage. Large sets of data are stored in the cloud while requested data is streamed to branch offices using the high bandwidth of a data center. Frequently used data is retained in a cache on a local NAS for fast, low-Latency access. Additionally, data security is enhanced as data transfer from NAS to C2 Cloud is end-to-end encrypted.

The RS422+ comes with Synology’s three-year hardware warranty, with an optional two-year extended warranty available in select regions. It is now available at Synology resellers and partners.

With the introduction of the RS422+, Synology continues to provide innovative solutions that meet the diverse needs of businesses and home lab owners. Whether it’s for edge server applications, small businesses, or personal use, the RS422+ offers a compact and affordable all-in-one solution for efficient data management, sharing, synchronization, and backup.

Technology Explained

NAS: Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a specialized storage device or server that provides centralized data storage and access over a network, usually using Ethernet connections. NAS systems are designed to offer a convenient and efficient way to store and share files among multiple users or devices within a home or office environment. Unlike traditional storage solutions, NAS devices operate independently and have their own operating systems and management interfaces. They are characterized by easy setup and configuration, making them accessible even to users with limited technical expertise. NAS devices can offer various features, including data redundancy through RAID configurations, remote access over the internet, automatic backup, media streaming, and even application hosting in some advanced models. As a versatile and user-friendly storage solution, NAS has become a popular choice for both personal and small business use.
