Synology Expands Deep Learning NVR Line with New Two-Bay Solution for Small Businesses and Homes
Bellevue, Wash—June 15, 2022—Synology, a leading provider of storage, surveillance, and networking solutions, has announced the launch of the Deep Learning NVR DVA1622. This new addition to Synology’s deep learning network video recorder lineup is specifically designed for smaller deployments, bringing AI-powered analytics within reach of small businesses and households.
The DVA1622 is a tailored solution that allows home users, shop owners, and others to benefit from up to two simultaneous smart analytics tasks while monitoring up to 16 cameras. It offers HDMI output for up to 16 streams on one screen and local controls via two USB ports, eliminating the need for a PC to monitor and manage the surveillance deployment.
“We designed the DVA1622 specifically with the needs of small and home users in mind,” said Tony Lin, product manager for surveillance at Synology Inc. “Not only did we right-size its capacity, but we also added additional features to make sure that it can be used with a monitor, mouse, and keyboard for an All-in-One, standalone surveillance solution.”
Deep learning video analytics (DVA) tasks offered by the DVA1622 go beyond simple threat identification. They actively identify specific threats as configured, reducing the effort of securing premises by providing more accurate and filtered alerts. For example, the system will only notify users of movement by people or cars. Deep learning analytics can also automate aspects of site management by calculating occupancy and generating statistics and other useful information.
One key application of the DVA1622 is enhancing home security. With one or two DVA tasks, homeowners can transform their home surveillance from simple CCTV recording to an active threat detection system that warns when suspicious activities are detected. The system supports intrusion detection and can correctly identify when humans or vehicles cross preset boundaries, such as fence tops, and in which direction they are crossed. It also scans feeds for humans or cars and sends alerts when these enter or linger in a certain area for a certain amount of time.
The DVA1622 comes with the Surveillance Station 9.0 video management system, offering the latest and greatest in surveillance technology. It supports more than 8,300 new and older camera models, making it easy to migrate from other solutions. Easy setup wizards automate configuration, getting users up and running in no time. Surveillance Station also offers integration with I/O modules, audio systems, door controllers, and other surveillance devices to create truly interactive security systems.
To ensure the safety of surveillance data, the DVA1622 supports automated backups to Synology NAS and dual recording from IP cameras to a second device or to the cloud with C2 Surveillance. It also offers features like footage and device encryption, HTTPS and SRTP support, live watermarking, and integrity authentication tools to protect video recordings against theft, intrusion, or unauthorized use.
For larger deployments, Synology offers the Surveillance Station Centralized Management System (CMS), which allows several to hundreds of Synology DVA, NVR, and NAS devices to be managed, operated, updated, and protected from a central management server. This enables users to process video at the edge while maintaining central control and remotely managing servers from a single console.
The DVA1622 is available now through Synology resellers and partners at an MSRP of $599.99.

Technology Explained
NAS: Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a specialized storage device or server that provides centralized data storage and access over a network, usually using Ethernet connections. NAS systems are designed to offer a convenient and efficient way to store and share files among multiple users or devices within a home or office environment. Unlike traditional storage solutions, NAS devices operate independently and have their own operating systems and management interfaces. They are characterized by easy setup and configuration, making them accessible even to users with limited technical expertise. NAS devices can offer various features, including data redundancy through RAID configurations, remote access over the internet, automatic backup, media streaming, and even application hosting in some advanced models. As a versatile and user-friendly storage solution, NAS has become a popular choice for both personal and small business use.
