  • Streamlined and centralized device and user access management
  • Ability to provision Microsoft 365 and Google accounts for single sign-on
  • Hybrid architecture for low-latency authentication services

Synology Inc. has recently launched its latest solution, C2 Identity, an online identity as a service (IDaaS) platform designed to assist businesses in securely managing user access to both on-premises and cloud applications using a single identity. This release comes at a time when protecting access to company resources has become increasingly challenging due to the rise of remote work and the growing number of cloud services being utilized.

C2 Identity aims to streamline and centralize device and user access management, thereby strengthening an organization’s security. With this solution, administrators can easily grant and revoke access to Windows, macOS, and cloud applications for users and groups through a single online admin console. Trusted employees are also provided with a self-service portal to conveniently manage their credentials, including passwords, secondary email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses.

One of the key features of C2 Identity is its ability to provision Microsoft 365 and Google accounts, allowing employees to use single sign-on (SSO) for secure access to these platforms. Additionally, the solution offers easy mass deployment of the C2 Identity desktop agent for administrators and employees using Windows AD or Jamf.

C2 Identity boasts a hybrid architecture that enables low-Latency authentication services. By running an on-premises server on Synology NAS or in a Docker container on any server, businesses can leverage fast offline authentication. The setup or migration process to C2 Identity is also simplified, as users can be migrated from LDAP servers, Windows AD servers, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or imported via a CSV file.

Privacy and security are at the forefront of C2 Identity’s design. All user credentials are protected through the Secure Remote Password (SRP) protocol, ensuring secure encryption and authentication without transmitting password-equivalent data over the internet. IT teams can further enhance security by enforcing complex passwords or enabling multi-factor authentication using time-based one-time passwords (TOTP).

C2 Identity is available in two subscription plans: Free and Business. Both plans allow for the management of up to 250 users, with the Business plan offering additional features such as the ability to join more devices and deploy more LDAP nodes. For more information on the features of C2 Identity Business, interested parties can reach out to Synology Inc.

In conclusion, Synology Inc.’s release of C2 Identity provides businesses with a comprehensive IDaaS solution to effectively manage user access to on-premises and cloud applications. With its streamlined administration, low-latency authentication, and robust security features, C2 Identity offers organizations the tools they need to enhance their security posture in an increasingly remote and cloud-driven work environment.

Technology Explained

NAS: Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a specialized storage device or server that provides centralized data storage and access over a network, usually using Ethernet connections. NAS systems are designed to offer a convenient and efficient way to store and share files among multiple users or devices within a home or office environment. Unlike traditional storage solutions, NAS devices operate independently and have their own operating systems and management interfaces. They are characterized by easy setup and configuration, making them accessible even to users with limited technical expertise. NAS devices can offer various features, including data redundancy through RAID configurations, remote access over the internet, automatic backup, media streaming, and even application hosting in some advanced models. As a versatile and user-friendly storage solution, NAS has become a popular choice for both personal and small business use.
