Synology Launches New HAS5300 Series SAS Hard Drives for Enterprise Storage Solutions

Synology, a leading provider of storage solutions, has recently launched its latest offering for enterprise environments – the HAS5300 series 3.5″ SAS hard drives. These drives have been specifically designed to meet the increasing demand for high-capacity, high-performance, and resilient storage systems.

The HAS5300 drives are available in three models: 16TB, 12TB, and 8TB. They are the newest addition to Synology’s range of enterprise hard drives, following the successful release of the HAT5300 series SATA drives earlier this year. These SAS drives are the perfect companions for Synology’s high-performance and highly scalable SA and UC series storage solutions.

One of the key features of the HAS5300 SAS drives is their ability to handle mission-critical workloads. With support for 550 TB/year workloads and a mean time to failure (MTTF) of 2.5 million hours, these drives are built to deliver consistent and class-leading performance even in the most demanding environments. The inclusion of persistent write cache technology further ensures data integrity for critical applications.

By leveraging the SAS protocol, Synology HAS5300 drives allow customers to scale up to 180 drives on the high-performance Synology SA series or maximize iSCSI system availability with the dual controller setup on the UC3200 active-active IP SAN. These drives also support fast data transfer for data-intensive configurations.

“The HAS5300 drives deliver up to 274 MB/s sustained data transfer speeds, making them the ideal choice for enterprises that require maximum performance and reliability,” said Peggy Weng, Product Manager at Synology Inc. “Whether you are performing large-scale video surveillance, multimedia post-production, or other high-volume processes, the HAS5300 drives deliver consistent enterprise-grade performance.”

Synology has gone above and beyond to ensure optimal compatibility and performance with their systems. More than 200,000 hours of compatibility and stress testing have been conducted on the three models of the HAS5300 series drives, guaranteeing unparalleled reliability and seamless integration with Synology deployments. Notably, these drives have achieved a significant improvement in RAID rebuild performance compared to similar-class drives on the market.

To further enhance user experience, Synology will ship HAS5300 drive firmware updates together with the latest updates for their DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system. This reduces the maintenance workload for IT teams and ensures that systems always run the newest software. Additionally, the HAS5300 series comes with Synology’s 5-year limited warranty, providing customers with peace of mind.

The 16TB, 12TB, and 8TB HAS5300 drives are available for purchase starting today from Synology resellers worldwide. For more technical specifications and detailed information, refer to the HAS5300 datasheet on Synology’s website.

In conclusion, Synology’s new HAS5300 series SAS hard drives offer enterprise-grade performance, reliability, and scalability for storage solutions. With their impressive features and compatibility with Synology systems, these drives are an excellent choice for businesses in need of high-capacity and high-performance storage.

Technology Explained

iSCSI: iSCSI, or Internet Small Computer System Interface, is a protocol that facilitates the transport of block-level storage data over a TCP/IP network. It enables storage devices, often referred to as targets, to be accessed remotely by servers or clients, known as initiators. iSCSI offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional Fibre Channel, allowing organizations to leverage existing Ethernet infrastructure for storage communication. By encapsulating SCSI commands within IP packets, iSCSI enables efficient and reliable storage communication across local or wide-area networks. This technology finds applications in data centers, storage virtualization, and remote backups, offering a flexible and scalable solution for managing storage resources.

SAN: A Storage Area Network (SAN) is a high-speed and specialized network architecture designed to facilitate the connection of storage devices, such as disk arrays and tape libraries, to servers. Unlike traditional network-attached storage (NAS), which is file-based, SAN operates at the block level, enabling direct access to storage resources. SANs are known for their performance, scalability, and flexibility, making them ideal for data-intensive applications, large enterprises, and environments requiring high availability. SANs typically employ Fibre Channel or iSCSI protocols to establish dedicated and fast communication paths between servers and storage devices. With features like centralized management, efficient data replication, and snapshot capabilities, SANs offer advanced data storage, protection, and management options. Overall, SAN technology has revolutionized data storage and management, enabling organizations to efficiently handle complex storage requirements and ensure reliable data access.
