- The ability to cool not only the GPU components but also the MCDs
- Improved thermal performance and compatibility with latest technologies and upcoming GPU releases
- Standardized dimensions and port positions for easy integration with other EK-Matrix7 compliant products
EK, the manufacturer of high-quality Liquid Cooling gear, is introducing a midlife upgrade to its Quantum Vector² graphics card water blocks. This refresh will be implemented on select Vector² water blocks to ensure compatibility with the latest technologies and upcoming GPU releases. The first product to receive these improvements is the new Vector² EVO water block designed for Radeon RX 7900 XT (Sapphire Nitro+ and Pulse) and Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPUs featuring unique memory cache dies (MCD) alongside the main chip.
The standout feature of the Vector² EVO water blocks is their ability to cool not only the GPU components like VRM, VRAM, Voltage Controllers, and the chip die but also the MCDs. This is achieved through a specially designed cooling engine that directs coolant flow to the MCDs, resulting in enhanced cooling performance.
The main upgrades include a redesigned end-piece to reduce the length of the water block, a custom-made inner O-ring to prevent coolant leakage and improve flow, high-performance pre-cut thermal pads, and a better-performing thermal paste.
One notable improvement is the increased number of O-rings inside the water block, which prevents coolant from seeping between the micro-spaces of the acrylic top and copper cold plate. This focused coolant flow ensures optimal cooling performance by following the predicted path, including the microfins.
The new high-performance thermal pads offer excellent thermal conductivity and ease of installation. They are pre-cut width-wise, reducing installation effort and minimizing the risk of improper cutting that could lead to poor contact between the GPU water block and the GPU.
The redesigned stand-out piece is now smaller and seamlessly integrated into the water block, increasing compatibility by reducing the length of the GPU enclosure. Additionally, the new EK-Loop Thermal Paste NGP features low thermal impedance for effective heat conductivity and long-term stability.
The EK-Quantum Vector² EVO for NITRO+ / Pulse RX 7900 XT/XTX D-RGB – Nickel + Plexi is the first EVO water block to be released. It features full EK-Matrix7 compatibility and is specifically engineered for Sapphire Nitro+ and Pulse Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX GPUs. The design of this liquid cooling solution is characterized by minimalistic straight lines, with a black-anodized aluminum backplate that covers the PCB entirely.
The cooling engine of the water block has been rotated by 90°, allowing optimal coolant flow over both the Graphics Core Die and the Memory Cache Die. This ensures that all Memory Cache Dies receive the same coolant temperature, thanks to the high-precision 3D-machined acrylic jet insert. The Vector² cooling engine combines the jet plate with a 3D-machined Plexi insert to improve flow distribution and thermal performance.
All Vector² GPU water blocks feature a 10 mm thick copper cold plate directly attached to an acetal terminal. The black-anodized aluminum backplate provides additional passive cooling to the back side of the PCB, enhancing the overall cooling capacity. The D-RGB LED lighting is deployed along the longest edge of the water block for improved brightness and uniformity.
The EK-Quantum Vector² water blocks come with a CNC-machined black-anodized backplate that includes captive nickel-plated mounting screws. This backplate increases the cooling surface and ensures better performance by making full contact with the water block’s base.
To simplify liquid cooling loop assembly, EK has introduced the EK-Matrix7 standard, which standardizes the dimensions and port positions of their products. This allows for easy integration and alignment with other EK-Matrix7 compliant products, reducing the time spent on loop planning and tube bending.
The EK-Quantum Vector² EVO for NITRO+ / Pulse RX 7900 XT/XTX D-RGB water blocks are now available for order through the EK Webshop and Partner resellers. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is 219.90€. For more information, visit the official EK website.

Liquid Cooling: Liquid cooling is a technology used to cool down computer components, such as processors, graphics cards, and other components that generate a lot of heat. It works by circulating a liquid coolant, such as water or a special coolant, through a series of pipes and radiators. The liquid absorbs the heat from the components and then dissipates it into the air. This technology is becoming increasingly popular in the computer industry due to its ability to provide more efficient cooling than traditional air cooling methods. Liquid cooling can also be used to overclock components, allowing them to run at higher speeds than their rated speeds. This technology is becoming increasingly popular in the gaming industry, as it allows gamers to get the most out of their hardware.

PCB: Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) are the backbone of the modern computer industry. They are thin boards made of a non-conductive material, such as fiberglass, with a thin layer of copper on top. This copper layer is etched with a pattern of electrical pathways that connect the various components of a computer together. PCBs are used in almost every electronic device, from computers to cell phones, and are essential for the functioning of these devices. They provide a reliable and efficient way to connect the components of a computer, allowing for faster and more reliable communication between them. The use of PCBs has revolutionized the computer industry, allowing for smaller, faster, and more reliable computers.
