Not only Fujitsu-leaves-european-pc-and-peripherals-market/">Fujitsu is discontinuing its PC activities in Europe, but also its Japanese competitor Dynabook. This manufacturer silently pulled the plug last April.
In 2019, the PC division of Toshiba, under the umbrella of Sharp Corporation and Foxconn, made a restart in the market under the name Dynabook. The PC portfolio was renewed and expanded, and the partner program received a boost. The computer company also offered two niche products: a zero-client laptop and an edge computer with a VR headset.
Initially, the rebranding went well; the corona epidemic even resulted in a surge of orders due to widespread remote working. However, the same epidemic eventually led to significant logistical problems. Ordered equipment could only be delivered months later, and inventories began to accumulate with partners. Broadly speaking, there was an excess supply that the market couldn’t absorb. When the PC market entered a downturn after the end of Covid-19 – with all remote workers already equipped with a PC – it became the final blow for Dynabook in Europe. On April 1st 2023, the curtain fell for the EMEA division of the PC company, and the manufacturer left the continent without much fanfare.
