Samsung and Arm have joined forces to develop a revolutionary 2-nanometer GAA technology and AI chiplet solution, building upon their successful collaboration and shared vision to redefine mobile computing and meet the demands of the AI era.
- Revolutionizes the data center and infrastructure custom silicon market
- Introduces AI chiplet solution for generative artificial intelligence
- Optimized Cortex-X CPU on Samsung's latest GAA process technology for improved performance and efficiency
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced a collaboration with ARM to develop an optimized next-generation Arm Cortex-X CPU on Samsung Foundry’s latest Gate-All-Around (GAA) process technology. This partnership builds upon years of successful collaboration between the two companies, with millions of devices already shipped with Arm CPU intellectual property on various process nodes offered by Samsung Foundry.
The collaboration aims to revolutionize the data center and infrastructure custom silicon market by reinventing 2-nanometer (nm) GAA technology. Additionally, Samsung and Arm are planning to introduce a AI chiplet solution that will transform the future of generative artificial intelligence (AI) mobile computing.
Jongwook Kye, Executive Vice President and Head of Foundry Design Platform Development at Samsung Electronics, expressed excitement about extending the partnership with Arm and delivering the next generation Cortex-X CPU. He stated that both companies have a solid foundation from years of collaboration, resulting in a significant achievement that provides access to the newest Cortex-CPU on the latest GAA process node.
Chris Bergey, SVP and GM of the Client Business of Arm Inc., highlighted the longstanding collaboration between Arm and Samsung, which has led to multi-generation innovation. He emphasized their shared vision to redefine what’s possible in mobile computing and their commitment to meeting the performance and efficiency demands of the AI era.
Samsung previously announced its production plans for 3 nm Multi-Bridge-Channel FET (MBCFET) based on GAA technology in 2022. GAA technology enables further device scaling beyond the FinFET generation, improving power efficiency and performance. The nanosheets structure of GAA implementation offers maximum design flexibility and scalability.
Arm has optimized its newest Cortex-X CPU using Samsung’s next-generation GAA process node, resulting in improved performance and efficiency for an enhanced user experience. The collaboration between Samsung and Arm focuses on design-technology co-optimization (DTCO), ensuring first-time-right silicon with competitive power, performance, and area (PPA) attributes.
The partnership between Samsung and Arm is driven by the growth of generative AI, which is expected to fuel a new wave of products offering superior user experiences. By accelerating access to the optimized implementation of the next-generation Cortex-X CPU on Samsung’s latest GAA process technology, the collaboration aims to enable industry-leading performance and drive product innovations in the future.

Background Information
About ARM:
ARM, originally known as Acorn RISC Machine, is a British semiconductor and software design company that specializes in creating energy-efficient microprocessors, system-on-chip (SoC) designs, and related technologies. Founded in 1990, ARM has become a important player in the global semiconductor industry and is widely recognized for its contributions to mobile computing, embedded systems, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. ARM's microprocessor designs are based on the Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) architecture, which prioritizes simplicity and efficiency in instruction execution. This approach has enabled ARM to produce highly efficient and power-saving processors that are used in a vast array of devices, ranging from smartphones and tablets to IoT devices, smart TVs, and more. The company does not manufacture its own chips but licenses its processor designs and intellectual property to a wide range of manufacturers, including Qualcomm, Apple, Samsung, and NVIDIA, who then integrate ARM's technology into their own SoCs. This licensing model has contributed to ARM's widespread adoption and influence across various industries.Latest Articles about ARM
