Seagate, a leader in mass-data storage solutions, has announced the launch of the Mozaic 3+ hard drive platform, which incorporates their innovative Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology. This launch marks a significant milestone in the storage industry, as it enables unparalleled areal densities of 3 TB+ per platter, with plans to achieve 4 TB+ and 5 TB+ per platter in the future.
The Mozaic 3+ platform powers Seagate’s flagship Exos product family, with capacity points of 30 TB and beyond. These high-capacity products are already shipping in volume to hyperscale cloud customers. The platform addresses common pain points in the industry by allowing customers to store more data in the same floor space, effectively doubling capacity compared to conventional drives.
One of the key advantages of Mozaic 3+ is that it uses similar material components as traditional hard drives while dramatically increasing capacity. This allows data centers to lower storage acquisition and operational costs, including a 40% improvement in per terabyte power consumption. Additionally, the platform helps customers achieve sustainability goals by offering a 55% reduction in embodied carbon per terabyte.
