MaxLinear, a leading provider of broadband access and gateway solutions, has announced that its Wi-Fi 7 chipsets and Tri-band Access Point have received certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance and have been selected as one of the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 test bed devices. This certification ensures that upcoming Wi-Fi 7 devices can seamlessly interoperate and deliver the high-performance capabilities promised by the new standard.

MaxLinear’s single-chip Wi-Fi 7 solution, which is included in the verification process, demonstrates the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of in-home communications and revolutionizing the way service providers build access and connectivity networks. With a focus on power efficiency and peak performance, MaxLinear is at the forefront of the Wi-Fi 7 revolution, offering blazing-fast speeds, reduced Latency, and robust connectivity.

The Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 Access Point, which utilizes MaxLinear’s Tri-band Access Point product with three frequency bands (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz) using a single Wi-Fi SoC, significantly improves speeds, capacity, and efficiency, making it ideal for high-density environments. It incorporates advanced features such as 4K QAM, Multi Link Operations (MLO), Multi RU and puncturing, MU-MIMO, OFDMA, advanced beamforming, and power-saving enhancements.

Based on the upcoming IEEE 802.11be standard (Extremely High Throughput – EHT), MaxLinear’s Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 SoC product family (MxL31712 and MxL31708) delivers an impressive peak throughput of 11.5 Gbps on the 6 GHz (6E) spectrum, which is twice as fast as the previous Wi-Fi 6 generation. The innovative architecture of MaxLinear’s Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 SoCs combines the Tri-band Access Point into a single Wi-Fi SoC, resulting in superior performance and latency in both Single User Single Link and Multi Link and Multi User scenarios, all while optimizing the bill of materials (BOM) and offering best-in-class low power modes.

At CES, MaxLinear will be showcasing the ultra-low power consumption of its Wi-Fi 7 based XGSPON Home Gateway platform, which consumes less than 5.7 watts in idle mode and between 7.4 to 9 watts under typical use case scenarios.

The demand for higher bandwidth driven by consumer needs such as 4K and 8K video, electronic gaming, immersive 3D experiences, generative AI, remote health monitoring, and in-home IoT devices continues to grow. Wi-Fi 7 represents a significant technological advancement, offering improved latency, speed, range, reliability, and enhanced security.

Technology Explained

Latency: Technology latency is the time it takes for a computer system to respond to a request. It is an important factor in the performance of computer systems, as it affects the speed and efficiency of data processing. In the computer industry, latency is a major factor in the performance of computer networks, storage systems, and other computer systems. Low latency is essential for applications that require fast response times, such as online gaming, streaming media, and real-time data processing. High latency can cause delays in data processing, resulting in slow response times and poor performance. To reduce latency, computer systems use various techniques such as caching, load balancing, and parallel processing. By reducing latency, computer systems can provide faster response times and improved performance.

MU-MIMO: MU-MIMO (Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) is a technology that allows multiple devices to communicate with a single access point at the same time. It is used in the computer industry to improve the performance of wireless networks. By using MU-MIMO, multiple devices can send and receive data simultaneously, which increases the speed and reliability of the network. This technology is especially useful in areas with a lot of wireless traffic, such as offices, schools, and public spaces. It also helps reduce interference between devices, which can lead to better performance and fewer dropped connections. MU-MIMO is becoming increasingly popular in the computer industry, as it allows for faster and more reliable wireless connections.

SoC: A System-on-Chip (SoC) is a highly integrated semiconductor device that encapsulates various electronic components, including processors, memory, input/output interfaces, and often specialized hardware components, all on a single chip. SoCs are designed to provide a complete computing system or subsystem within a single chip package, offering enhanced performance, power efficiency, and compactness. They are commonly used in a wide range of devices, from smartphones and tablets to embedded systems and IoT devices, streamlining hardware complexity and facilitating efficient integration of multiple functions onto a single chip.
