SK hynix Inc., a leading memory chip manufacturer, has announced the availability of its 16 Gigabyte (GB) packages of Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo (LPDDR5T), the fastest mobile DRAM currently on the market. With a blazing transfer speed of 9.6 gigabits per second (Gbps), this memory module is set to maximize the performance of smartphones like never before.
Following the successful development of LPDDR5T earlier this year, SK hynix has been working closely with global mobile application processor (AP) manufacturers to ensure its commercial viability. The company is keen on expanding the application range of this product and spearheading the generation shift in the mobile DRAM sector.
The LPDDR5T 16 GB package operates at an ultra-low voltage range of 1.01 to 1.12 V, as specified by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC). This efficient memory module can process a staggering 77 GB of data per second, equivalent to transferring 15 full high-definition (FHD) movies in just one second.
SK hynix has already started shipping its LPDDR5T modules to Vivo, a global smartphone manufacturer. Vivo has announced that its latest smartphones, the X100 and X100 Pro, will be equipped with SK hynix’s memory packages. These devices will also feature MediaTek’s flagship mobile AP Dimensity 9300, further enhancing their performance capabilities.
The increasing demand for high-performing and high-capacity mobile DRAMs in the market is driven by the need to support On-Device AI technology as we enter the AI era. “Smartphones are becoming essential devices for implementing On-Device AI technology as the AI era kicks into full swing,” said Myoungsoo Park, Vice President and Head of DRAM Marketing at SK hynix. “We will continue to lead the premium DRAM market based on our technological leadership in AI memories, while staying in tune with market demands,” Park added.
