At its inaugural Samsung System LSI Tech Day 2023 event, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. showcased its latest innovations in analog and logic semiconductor technologies, introducing its vision for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era and a range of products.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in advanced semiconductor technology, made waves at its inaugural Samsung System LSI Tech Day 2023 event by showcasing its latest innovations in analog and logic semiconductor technologies. The event, held at Samsung Semiconductor U.S. headquarters and attended by around 300 customers and partners, featured informative tech sessions led by Samsung executives. These sessions covered a wide range of topics, including System LSI humanoids, AI, and the company’s research and development efforts in the U.S.

In the opening keynote, Samsung outlined its vision to spearhead hyper-intelligent, hyper-connected, and hyper-data technologies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era. The company emphasized its commitment to providing comprehensive logic solutions tailored for various industries. Yong-In Park, President and Head of System LSI Business at Samsung Electronics, highlighted the growing significance of generative AI and the need for powerful foundational technologies to process data and bring AI to life. He introduced Samsung’s Samsung System LSI Humanoid platform, which seamlessly integrates capabilities across a range of logic semiconductors, including computational IPs, connectivity solutions, and sensors that emulate the main human senses.

One of the event’s standout moments was the preview of Samsung’s upcoming flagship mobile processor, the Exynos 2400. This processor boasts an Xclipse 940 GPU based on the latest AMD RDNA 3 architecture. A live demo showcased the processor’s enhanced Ray Tracing capability, promising improved realism and immersion in gaming through optical effects like global illumination, reflection, and shadow rendering. The Exynos 2400 processor also delivers significant advancements in computing performance, with a 1.7x increase in CPU performance and an impressive 14.7x boost in AI performance compared to its predecessor, the Exynos 2200. Samsung also introduced a new AI tool designed for future smartphones, demonstrating text-to-image AI generation using the Exynos 2400 reference board.

Samsung also launched its Zoom Anyplace technology, which is based on a 200-million pixel image sensor. This innovation promises an entirely new camera zoom experience, allowing mobile users to capture up to 4x close-ups of moving objects without any image degradation. The technology utilizes AI-based tracking to automatically follow and capture objects, ensuring that no moment or detail is left uncaptured.

Other notable introductions at the event included a next-generation 5G modem ready for Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) non-terrestrial networks (NTN), a new vision sensor brand called ISOCELL Vizion, and a Smart Health processor. Samsung also showcased its latest automotive processor, the Exynos Auto V920, which is set for mass production in 2025. The processor was demonstrated running multiple applications across multiple displays. Additionally, Samsung highlighted its ISOCELL Auto 1H1 image sensor, which boasts a 120 Hz high dynamic range (HDR) and superior LED flicker mitigation (LFM) performance, ensuring safer driving experiences. The company also showcased its expertise in cellular and connectivity technologies with a video demo of NB-IoT NTN satellite communication in collaboration with Skylo Technologies. Furthermore, Samsung shared a live demo of wireless lighting control using its ultra-wideband (UWB) solution, the Exynos Connect U100.

The event also featured several other logic innovations, including the ISOCELL HP2, a 200-megapixel (MP) ultra-high-resolution image sensor, an advanced driver assistance (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) camera solution called ISOCELL Auto 1H1, a quantum-dot (QD) OLED display driver IC (DDI), IoT security solutions, and wireless-charging power management IC (PMIC).

In the afternoon panel discussion session, Sukhwan Lim, head of the U.S. System LSI R&D Center at Samsung, joined academic experts from prestigious institutions like Cornell Tech, UC Berkeley, and Stanford University to delve into the implications of recent trends in generative AI and large language models on compute platforms. The discussion offered valuable insights into the future of AI and its impact on various industries.
