Unveiling Project G-Assist at Computex 2024

At Computex 2024, we pulled back the curtain on something truly exciting: Project G-Assist. This tech demo offered a sneak peek into how AI assistants could transform the PC experience for gamers, creators, and everyday users alike. Today, we’re thrilled to announce the experimental release of the Project G-Assist System Assistant feature, available for Geforce RTX desktop users through the nVidia app. And don’t worry, GeForce RTX laptop support is on the way!

As our PCs get more powerful, they also become increasingly complex to navigate. Did you know that users face over a trillion possible combinations of settings when trying to optimize their PCs? That’s right—everything from the GPU and CPU to monitors and peripherals can be a maze. That’s where Project G-Assist comes in. It’s designed to simplify this chaos, acting as your personal AI assistant that runs locally on GeForce RTX AI PCs.

What Can G-Assist Do?

Project G-Assist is like having a tech-savvy friend at your fingertips. Whether you want to optimize game settings, track frame rates, or tweak peripheral lighting, you can do it all with simple voice or text commands. Imagine saying, “Hey G-Assist, what’s my GPU temperature?” and getting a quick response without having to dig through menus.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. G-Assist uses a specially tuned Small Language Model (SLM) to interpret your commands seamlessly. It taps into various NVIDIA and third-party APIs to execute actions on your PC. Need to diagnose a performance bottleneck? G-Assist can provide real-time recommendations to enhance power efficiency, optimize settings, and even overclock your GPU. It’s all about making your gaming and creative experiences smoother and more enjoyable.

The Power of On-Device AI

One of the coolest aspects of G-Assist is that it runs locally on your GeForce RTX GPU. Unlike those hefty cloud-based AI models that require constant internet access and often come with subscription fees, G-Assist is fast, free, and available offline. It utilizes a Llama-based Instruct model with 8 billion parameters, allowing it to pack serious language understanding into a compact package.

When you call on G-Assist by pressing Alt+G—whether to optimize graphics settings or check on your GPU’s health—your GPU dedicates a bit of its power to make it happen. Sure, you might notice a slight dip in performance for a moment, but once G-Assist wraps up its task, your GPU is back to delivering peak performance.
