Qualcomm's latest chip, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, offers improved gaming performance and AI capabilities, with a 4nm architecture and support for ARMv9 cores, 144 Hz displays, and INT4 support, making it a promising option for mid-range devices.

  • Improved gaming performance
  • New AI technologies
  • Supports displays up to 1080p with a refresh rate of 144 Hz

Qualcomm has just confirmed its latest chip, designed for mid-range devices that prioritize gaming and AI tasks. The new Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 has been announced with improvements aimed at delivering higher gaming performance and incorporating new AI technologies. This chip will be one of the first from Qualcomm to be produced using TSMC’s 4nm architecture, as previous versions were still under Samsung’s 4nm architecture and TSMC’s 6nm architecture.

This change also allows for the adoption of the new ARMv9 cores for the new processor lineup, bringing along all the benefits that come with it. The chip features a 2.3 GHz Cortex-A720 core, combined with three other Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz, and four Cortex-A520 cores running at 1.8 GHz for efficiency.

In terms of performance, the Geekbench 5.2 single-thread test shows an 11% improvement over the previous generation in base performance and up to 29% improvement in graphics performance. Additionally, the chip boasts up to 12% better energy efficiency compared to its predecessor.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 also supports displays up to 1080p with a Refresh Rate of 144 Hz. It will be one of the first chips in the lineup to feature INT4 support, which should enhance performance in various AI-related tasks. Furthermore, the processor supports up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, with speeds of up to 3200 MHz.

We can expect the first devices with this processor to hit the market later this year, although it’s still unknown which model will be the first to feature it. It’s an exciting time for tech enthusiasts and gamers alike, as this chip promises to deliver a solid performance for mid-range devices, making them capable of handling demanding gaming and AI tasks without breaking the bank. So, keep an eye out for the upcoming devices powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chip!
