Qualcomm's latest chip, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, boasts improved gaming performance and AI capabilities, as well as being one of the first chips produced with TSMC's 4nm architecture.
- Improved gaming performance
- New AI technologies
- Support for higher screen resolutions and refresh rates
Qualcomm has just confirmed its latest chip, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, which is geared towards mid-range devices that prioritize gaming and AI tasks. This chip brings improvements in gaming performance and introduces new AI technologies. What’s interesting is that it will be one of the first chips produced with TSMC’s 4nm architecture, while previous versions were built on Samsung’s 4nm and TSMC’s 6nm architectures.
By adopting the new ARMv9 cores, Qualcomm is able to take advantage of all the benefits they offer. The chip features a 2.3 GHz Cortex-A720 core, along with three 2.2 GHz Cortex-A720 cores and four 1.8 GHz Cortex-A520 cores for efficiency. In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 outperforms its predecessor by 11% in single-threaded tasks and up to 29% in graphics performance, as shown in the Geekbench 5.2 single-thread test. It also boasts up to 12% better energy efficiency compared to the previous generation.
This chip supports screens with resolutions of up to 1080p and a Refresh Rate of 144 Hz. Additionally, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is one of the first in its lineup to offer support for INT4, which promises enhanced performance in various AI-related tasks. It can also handle up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM with speeds of up to 3200 MHz.
Excitingly, we can expect devices powered by this chip to hit the market later this year. While we don’t know which model will be the first to feature it, it’s definitely something to keep an eye out for. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 seems to be a promising addition to Qualcomm’s lineup, offering improved gaming performance, AI capabilities, and energy efficiency.
