Xiaomi is reportedly working on its own dedicated processor, a move that would free the company from relying on Qualcomm and MediaTek. While the idea of a Xiaomi processor is not new, recent indications suggest that it may finally be launched soon.

References to a new processor called “XRING” have been found in the source code of the latest HyperOS updates, leading many to believe that this could be Xiaomi’s dedicated chip. Speculation is that the processor could be released by the end of this year and potentially feature in upcoming Xiaomi devices.

In the past, Xiaomi attempted to launch its first dedicated processor, the Surge S1, which made its debut in the Mi 5c. However, its success was limited to that particular model. Since then, the company has relied on versions of Qualcomm and MediaTek processors.

It’s worth noting that XRING is just a codename, so it may not be the official name chosen by Xiaomi. Nevertheless, the reference to XRING in the system’s source code, along with the mention of possible MediaTek associations, adds weight to the speculation.

While details about the chip are still unknown, it is believed that it will support 5G mobile networks, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth, and feature a Mali GPU. By developing its own processor, Xiaomi would gain more control over its products and hardware, following in the footsteps of companies like Apple and Google. The chip’s development has been known for some time, although nothing official has been confirmed yet.

Previous rumors suggested that the processor could have 8 cores and potentially adopt an MG CXT 48-1536 GPU. However, it’s important to remember that all information about this new processor is based solely on rumors, and nothing has been officially confirmed. As a result, the company’s plans could still change.
