CES Las Vegas

Nvidia's new RTX 50 graphics cards, including models for laptops, were launched at CES 2025, but early performance tests on the RTX 5090 model show lower scores than expected, possibly due to lack of driver support and compatibility issues with newer hardware.

  • New RTX 50 graphics cards launched
  • Models specifically designed for laptops
  • Possible future performance improvements

During CES 2025, nVidia launched its new RTX 50 Graphics Cards, which also include models specifically designed for Laptops. However, amidst the criticism of the new cards, it seems that the portable models also have some performance issues. BenchLeaks user from X recently shared some performance tests conducted on the new RTX 50 cards using an MSI Vector 17 HX AI laptop. The tests were specifically done on the RTX 5090 model, and according to the results, the performance falls below initial expectations.

According to the tests conducted using the Geekbench application, the graphics card scored a total of 114,821 points in the Vulkan test. This score is lower than the average of 167,000 points obtained with the RTX 4090 for laptops. This is definitely a cause for concern among consumers, as theoretically, a newer card should outperform older ones.

Even the RTX 4080 for laptops scored a total of 145,000 points in the same test. It’s important to note that the benchmark conducted on the RTX 5090 is still preliminary and unofficial, so it may not accurately reflect the final performance.

One of the issues pointed out could be related to the fact that the current drivers in the market do not fully support the RTX 50 cards yet, which could impact their performance. There are also other concerns regarding support for newer hardware, such as the new Intel processors not being fully adapted in the market drivers.

It’s possible that performance will improve in the future, but for now, based on what we know, the results are certainly disappointing.
