QNAP Systems has released the TL-R2400PES-RP, a high-speed PCIe JBOD storage enclosure that allows petabyte-class NAS storage expansion with no RAID-rebuilding required.
- High-speed data transfer with PCIe Gen 3 x8, providing up to 64 Gb/s
- Allows for petabyte-class storage expansion without RAID-rebuilding on the host NAS
- Convenient power on/off feature linked with the host NAS, reducing hardware management tasks for IT staff
QNAP Systems, Inc. has launched the TL-R2400PES-RP, a new PCIe JBOD storage enclosure that offers high-speed data transfer. With PCIe Gen 3 x8, it provides up to 64 Gb/s data transfer. This new model joins the existing 12 and 16-bay models in the TL-Rx00PES-RP series.
The TL-R2400PES-RP allows users to expand their NAS storage volumes to petabyte-class by connecting multiple JBODs from the TL-Rx00PES-RP series. The best part is that this expansion does not require RAID-rebuilding on the host NAS. This series uses SATA drives, giving businesses the flexibility to choose from a wide range of enterprise hard drives.
Designed for businesses that need to archive or back up large amounts of data, such as virtualization applications, surveillance recordings, and multimedia, the TL-Rx00PES-RP series is a reliable solution. It offers a convenient power on/off feature that is linked with the host NAS, reducing hardware management tasks for IT staff.
To scale up using TL-Rx00PES-RP series expansion enclosures, users will need to use storage expansion cards such as the QXP-3X8PES (PCIe Gen 3 x8) or the QXP-3X4PES (PCIe Gen 3 x4).
Here are some key specifications of the TL-Rx00PES-RP series:
– TL-R2400PES-RP: 24 drive bays per unit, supports up to 12 connected JBOD units, and has a maximum capacity of 4.1 PB.
– TL-R1600PES-RP: 16 drive bays per unit, supports up to 12 connected JBOD units, and has a maximum capacity of 2.9 PB.
– TL-R1200PES-RP: 12 drive bays per unit, supports up to 12 connected JBOD units, and has a maximum capacity of 2.0 PB.
For users looking to expand their NAS storage, the QXP-3XxPES PCIe expansion cards are essential. Here are some key specifications of these expansion cards:
– QXP-3X8PES: 2 channels with 1 x 2 SFF-8644 connectors, and supports PCIe Gen 3 x8.
– QXP-3X4PES: 2 channels with SFF-8644 connectors, and supports PCIe Gen 3 x4.
The TL-R2400PES-RP JBOD and the companion expansion cards are now available. For more information and to view the full QNAP NAS lineup, visit www.qnap.com.

Technology Explained
NAS: Network Attached Storage (NAS) is a specialized storage device or server that provides centralized data storage and access over a network, usually using Ethernet connections. NAS systems are designed to offer a convenient and efficient way to store and share files among multiple users or devices within a home or office environment. Unlike traditional storage solutions, NAS devices operate independently and have their own operating systems and management interfaces. They are characterized by easy setup and configuration, making them accessible even to users with limited technical expertise. NAS devices can offer various features, including data redundancy through RAID configurations, remote access over the internet, automatic backup, media streaming, and even application hosting in some advanced models. As a versatile and user-friendly storage solution, NAS has become a popular choice for both personal and small business use.

PCIe: PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) is a high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard for connecting components such as graphics cards, sound cards, and network cards to a motherboard. It is the most widely used interface in the computer industry today, and is used in both desktop and laptop computers. PCIe is capable of providing up to 16 times the bandwidth of the older PCI standard, allowing for faster data transfer speeds and improved performance. It is also used in a variety of other applications, such as storage, networking, and communications. PCIe is an essential component of modern computing, and its applications are only expected to grow in the future.

RAID: RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is a technology used in the computer industry to increase the performance, reliability, and storage capacity of computer systems. It works by combining multiple hard drives into a single logical unit, allowing them to be accessed as if they were a single drive. This allows for faster data access, as multiple drives can be accessed simultaneously, and for increased reliability, as data can be stored redundantly across multiple drives. RAID is commonly used in servers, workstations, and other high-performance computing systems, as well as in consumer-level storage solutions such as NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices.
