- Global rollout of PS5 system software update
- Enhancement of DualSense controller's audio capabilities
- Introduction of Share Screen Interactions feature
In the latest update on March 13, 2024, Sony has announced the global rollout of the PS5 system software update. Alongside this, a Playstation App update is also scheduled for later this month, which will enable users to enjoy Share Screen interactions on the app. As we dive into the new year with an impressive lineup of PS5 game releases, including highly anticipated titles like The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Tekken 8, Helldivers 2, and FINAL FANTASY VII Rebirth, Sony is also introducing another PS5 system software beta with a range of quality-of-life enhancements and new features.
While the beta access is limited to invited participants in select countries, Sony plans to release the update globally in the coming months. If you’re lucky enough to be selected for the beta, you’ll receive an email invitation to download it. However, it’s important to note that some features available during the beta phase may not make it into the final version or could undergo significant changes.
One notable improvement in this update is the enhancement of the DualSense wireless controller’s built-in mic and speaker audio. The device software for both the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers has been updated to improve their sound capabilities. The controller speakers can now produce higher volume sound, ensuring that in-game sounds and voice chat audio are clearer than ever before. Thanks to a new AI machine learning model, the mic input quality on these controllers has also been significantly improved. Background noise from button presses and game audio is suppressed, resulting in a better voice chat experience. To enjoy enhanced clarity of your voice chat audio when using the controller mic, make sure to install the system software beta and update the controller device software. Additionally, you can adjust the controller speaker volume from the control center to suit your preferences.
Another exciting addition is the Share Screen Interactions feature. Players watching Share Screen in full screen mode can now interact with the host’s gameplay using pointers and emoji reactions. By moving a pointer around, viewers can send a ping or draw a line on the shared screen, allowing them to highlight specific objects or areas to guide the host player more accurately. Viewers can also send emoji-based reactions to visually encourage and celebrate gameplay actions. It’s important to note that this feature is available by default but can be turned off by the host in the Share Screen settings. Both the host and the viewer must be participating in the beta to use this feature during the beta period.
Additionally, Sony has introduced the ability to adjust the brightness of your PS5 console’s power indicator. Simply navigate to [Settings] > [System] > [Beep and Light], and then select [Brightness] to customize it according to your preferences.
Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment, expressed gratitude to the community for their valuable feedback and support of the beta programs. Sony is eagerly looking forward to hearing users’ thoughts on these new features and enhancements.
With these updates, Sony continues to refine the PS5 experience, ensuring that players have access to the latest advancements and improvements. Stay tuned for more exciting developments in the world of PlayStation.
