In 2024, generative AI will become personal, revolutionizing work for creators, designers, and data scientists with new laptops capable of building, testing, and running large language models, according to the CEOs of NVIDIA and HP.

  • Generative AI will become personal, revolutionizing the work of creators, designers, and data scientists.
  • HP's new AI PCs and workstations offer increased speed, security, and cost efficiency compared to cloud-based alternatives.
  • Data scientists can expect significant speed-ups in their work with access to NVIDIA's AI platform and integrated CUDA-X libraries.

In a fireside chat at HP Amplify, the CEOs of nVidia and HP made a bold prediction for 2024: generative AI will become personal. Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, described it as a “renaissance of the personal computer,” stating that creators, designers, and data scientists will experience a revolution in their work with the introduction of new Laptops capable of building, testing, and running large language models.

Enrique Lores, CEO of HP, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that AI is the most significant development for PCs in decades. HP launched what they claim to be the industry’s largest portfolio of AI PCs and workstations, offering increased speed, security, cost reduction, and energy efficiency compared to cloud-based AI work. The new HP ZBooks, powered by NVIDIA RTX Ada Generation GPUs, provide a range of mobile AI workstations. From entry-level systems with the NVIDIA RTX 500 Ada Generation Laptop GPU for generative AI on-the-go, to high-end models with the RTX 5000 delivering up to 682 TOPS (tera operations per second) for local creation and execution of LLMs (large language models) using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for personalized and private results.

These new workstations have access to NVIDIA’s comprehensive AI platform, including software that accelerates data science at the core of generative AI. Developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, HP’s Z by HP AI Studio platform integrates with NVIDIA NGC, a catalog of GPU-accelerated software for AI and data science. NGC includes NVIDIA NeMo, a framework for building, customizing, and deploying generative AI models. Additionally, HP and NVIDIA announced the integration of NVIDIA CUDA-X libraries into the systems, enhancing data preparation and processing essential for generative AI. One notable library is NVIDIA RAPIDS cuDF, which accelerates pandas software used by millions of data scientists, reducing processing time from hours to minutes.

Alongside the new systems, HP launched a partner training program in collaboration with NVIDIA. This program aims to equip computer vendors with the knowledge to advise customers on the best AI products and solutions for their specific needs. These initiatives mark the beginning of an era where AI enables software to write software, reinventing both the computer and its usage, according to Huang. He believes that large language models connected to other LLMs will play a crucial role in solving application problems, representing the future of AI.

In summary, the CEOs of NVIDIA and HP predict that 2024 will witness a personalization revolution driven by generative AI. The new laptops and workstations launched by HP offer increased speed, security, and cost efficiency compared to cloud-based alternatives. With access to NVIDIA’s AI platform and integrated CUDA-X libraries, data scientists can expect significant speed-ups in their work. This announcement also includes a partner training program, setting the stage for an industry where AI empowers software to write software. The future, as described by Jensen Huang, lies in large language models collaborating to solve complex application problems.
