AMD expands its client-based ML Development offering with the release of ROCm 6.0, providing AI enthusiasts with greater accessibility to desktop graphics cards and enhanced solution stack, including support for ONNX Runtime and mixed precision training with PyTorch.
- Expanded range of options for AI development with support for Radeon PRO W7800 and Radeon RX 7900 GRE GPUs
- Integration with ONNX Runtime for easier conversion of AI models between different frameworks
- Mixed precision with FP32/FP16 for more efficient and accurate training processes
In a recent announcement, AMD revealed its plans to expand its client-based ML Development offering with the release of AMD ROCm 6.0. This move comes as a continuation of the company’s support for AI researchers and ML engineers, following their previous support for the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT, XTX, and Radeon PRO W7900 GPUs.
With the introduction of AMD ROCm 6.0, AI enthusiasts can now develop on Radeon PRO W7800 and Radeon RX 7900 GRE GPUs, further expanding the range of options available to them. This move aims to provide the AI community with greater accessibility to desktop Graphics Cards at various price points and performance levels.
To enhance their solution stack, AMD has also added support for ONNX Runtime. ONNX, short for Open Neural Network Exchange, serves as an intermediary framework for converting AI models between different ML frameworks. This integration enables users to perform inference on a wider range of source data on local AMD hardware. Additionally, AMD ROCm 6.0 introduces INT8 via MIGraphX, AMD’s graph inference engine, thereby expanding the available data types to include FP32, FP16, and INT8.
Continuing their commitment to supporting the PyTorch framework, AMD ROCm 6.0 brings mixed precision with FP32/FP16 to Machine Learning training workflows. This development opens up new possibilities for AI enthusiasts and professionals alike, as it allows for more efficient and accurate training processes.
These advancements mark an exciting time for individuals venturing into the field of AI. With ROCm for AMD Radeon desktop GPUs, AMD is providing a compelling solution for AI engineers, ML researchers, and enthusiasts, regardless of budget constraints. The company remains dedicated to expanding hardware support and adding more capabilities to its Machine Learning Development solution stack in the future.
David Diederichs, Product Marketing Manager, PRO Software at AMD, expressed his enthusiasm for these developments, highlighting the company’s commitment to empowering the AI community with accessible and powerful tools.
