Intel Introduces vPro to 14th Gen Desktop and Core Ultra Mobile Platforms, Empowering Enterprise

Intel has added vPro security technologies to select 14th Gen Core series processors and Meteor Lake-based Core Ultra-H and U series mobile processors, offering two levels of vPro Securities and addressing the demand for updated security in businesses.

Intel has made an announcement at this year’s MWC 2024 conference regarding the addition of vPro security technologies to select 14th Generation Core series processors and their latest Meteor Lake-based Core Ultra-H and U series mobile processors. This move comes as no surprise, as Intel typically introduces vPro support after the release of their full range of processors. The inclusion of vPro Essential and vPro Enterprise support in these processors is aimed at meeting the increasing demand for up-to-date security in both small and large enterprises.

To provide a brief overview, Intel offers two levels of vPro securities: vPro Essentials and vPro Enterprise. The former is designed for small businesses, offering hardware-level protection against emerging threats and real-time intelligence for workload optimization. It also includes AI-based threat detection to mitigate OS-level threats. On the other hand, vPro Enterprise is tailored for larger-scale business environments, providing advanced security features, remote management capabilities, enhanced performance, and reliability.

It’s important to note that Intel’s vPro support is not tied to specific chip SKUs but rather enabled through specific motherboard chipsets. For the 14th Gen Core series, only Q670 and W680 chipsets offer support for vPro. Users must ensure they have a compatible motherboard to enable vPro functionality.

In terms of specific SKUs, the Core i5-14600k, Core i7-14700k, and Core i9-14900k from the 14th Gen family support vPro Enterprise. Other processors in the lineup, including the non-monikered chips and T series processors, support both vPro Enterprise and vPro Essentials.

Moving on to the mobile space, Intel has also enabled vPro support for their latest Meteor Lake-based Core Ultra H and U series processors. However, unlike the desktop platform, mobile SKUs only support either vPro Enterprise or vPro Essentials, not both.

It’s worth mentioning that Intel’s announcement of vPro support for Meteor Lake isn’t entirely new, as it was previously mentioned in their Series 1 Product Brief. However, the recent announcement clarifies which SKUs have which level of vPro support. This could potentially cause confusion for users who have already purchased Core Ultra series notebooks, as they may not be aware of the specific vPro capabilities of their devices.
