EdgeCortix, the Japan-based semiconductor company specializing in energy-efficient AI processing, has made an exciting announcement today. The Acquisitions, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) of the Japan Ministry of Defense has selected EdgeCortix to be a part of an elite group of leading Japanese companies representing the country’s air and defense innovation landscape at the prestigious Singapore Airshow. This event, held from February 20 to 25, is one of the largest and most influential shows of its kind in the world, attracting up to 50,000 attendees per biennial show. With over 1,000 companies from 50 countries expected to participate in the 2024 show, this is a significant opportunity for EdgeCortix.

At the Singapore Airshow, EdgeCortix will showcase its flagship product, the SAKURA-I chip, alongside other notable Japanese innovations. The SAKURA-I chip is a dedicated co-processor designed to deliver high compute efficiency and low Latency for AI workloads at the edge. This means that it can process data and make critical decisions in real-time, even in remote locations far from a datacenter. Compared to conventional semiconductors like GPUs and CPUs, the SAKURA-I chip offers significantly better energy efficiency and processing speed, resulting in reduced operating costs for end users.

Industries such as civilian transportation, aviation, defense, and aerospace are increasingly turning to AI solutions to enhance safety, convenience, and security. By leveraging AI at the edge, these sectors can achieve their objectives while minimizing risks to human operators. EdgeCortix’s SAKURA-I chip, with its compact form factor and high efficiency, has emerged as a vital tool for edge computing in defense and aerospace. The company predicts that software-driven hardware solutions will play an increasingly important role in these sectors moving forward.

“We are honored to be featured in ATLA’s booth representing Japanese innovation at the Singapore Airshow and are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with such elite companies at the show,” says Sakyasingha Dasgupta, CEO and Founder of EdgeCortix. This recognition from ATLA further solidifies EdgeCortix’s position as a key player in the AI processing space.

Through its participation in the Singapore Airshow 2024, ATLA aims to showcase Japan’s advanced technological capabilities in defense equipment and technology. This joint effort between the public and private sectors, including EdgeCortix, demonstrates Japan’s commitment to innovation and collaboration in the global aerospace industry.

Technology Explained

Latency: Technology latency is the time it takes for a computer system to respond to a request. It is an important factor in the performance of computer systems, as it affects the speed and efficiency of data processing. In the computer industry, latency is a major factor in the performance of computer networks, storage systems, and other computer systems. Low latency is essential for applications that require fast response times, such as online gaming, streaming media, and real-time data processing. High latency can cause delays in data processing, resulting in slow response times and poor performance. To reduce latency, computer systems use various techniques such as caching, load balancing, and parallel processing. By reducing latency, computer systems can provide faster response times and improved performance.
